Birthday Lantern w/pics of collection (NEW)

Postby parnold » Fri May 25, 2012 7:56 pm

Well sort of! I found this for my oldest son, May 1986.

Image

I'm still looking for a single lung March 1958 for myself, and I'm looking for a July 1989 for my younger son.

This brings my white gas collection to 4 single mantle, 4 dual mantle, and 4 1/2 table lamps, 3 dual burner stoves, 2 single burner stoves.
My propane collection is 1 double mantle lantern, 2 single burner picnic (pink) and 2 burner picnic converted to modern propane tanks.
I have a few assorted other odds n ends, like jug, coolers, lunchboxes (2), knives, coffee pot and coffee cups.
And this is just my Coleman stuff!

Sorry no pics of my stoves except the one I use. They are all stored away, not on display.

Thanks for posting the pic's, Paul. That's quite a collection you have there. :applause:  :applause:

I, too was curious about the old iron rod.

p.s. That thunder storm you mentioned in your Slouchy thread is headed my way pushing a bunch of humidity with it. I was drenched just standing at the bench driving screws!

Love the horde pics! All the Coleman brought back memories of camping trips the family took when I was a kid. Wish we still had it...

That's actually a toy gun I bought years ago at an antique dealer. The knife is a crudely made one that I picked up at a flea market, it just seemed to fit the period. It appears to be homemade, although it could just be a terrible taiwanese knife for all I know.

That drbbob31 post is some kind of spam do not click on any of it.

If any of the moderators are watching or whatever drbob31 needs to be kicked out.

I checked several of his past posts. drbbob31 is not a spam bot, and only his very last post had the link to the bus line or whatever it was.

Spam bot..sounds tasty!!

There is a 220a birthday lantern for me on ebay..with box and stuff...was $60 when I checked last night. I'm just not feeling it. I want to find one in the wild, or one that is not a shelf queen MIB lantern (not that this w=one was minty, but it is a nicer one!)

Besides..I think I want a green birthday lantern. That was my camping gear color when I was a kid...my dad gave me green, my sister got red. That way we wouldn't fight over the stuff if someone ruined something! Not that we ever fought, of course!

Nice hoard there..I suppose I need to post some pictures of my small stash some day..I'm fixing up my 220f..the first one..so I'll post then..

Makes me think I should go Coleman hunting today....boost my numbers....

I found a 220 birthday lantern for myself, but I really love the single mantle, and my childhood lantern was a red 200a, so that's what I have my heart set on. I've only ever seen one on ebay, and it was in VG condition and the guy had it posted for 79 or 89 dollars. I don't want one that bad.

took another look at the 200a on ebay and it has the box, instructions, and the lantern for $60. We didn't have the single mantles when we camped..it was probably 220f. Dang things were green, and guess who had to learn to tie the dang mantles on. And burn them in. I hate it to this day. somehow one always messed up..and when changing that one the other one messed up.

I think I want a 228f birthday lantern..I don't have a 228, so it would be a reason to get one!

They sure made a lot of Coleman stuff in 66..makes me jealous.
