Cheers Larry
Still no number plate light yet. I'm on the lookout for a Vw beetle light and my VW club has a big meet up this weekend at the same festival we are heading to so we are going to risk it for a biscuit getting there without one.
I do have a few biscuits to spare :D

Awesome teardrop. What a fun video. It looks like it was a fantastic gathering. Humphrey stole the show.

Thanks Aggie, it was great fun and helped to work out a few design flaws.

Well not much done since we came back, it the raining decade here.

But i made a start on the front box.

Base made and undersealed (lots more coats than in the pic)

Image

And tried on for size, which also included test driving around the block and some sharp turns in reverse.

Image

then i had to make a jig/template thingy to get the front curve..

Image

Sides made up from 5 rebated piece to allow a good door stop.

Image

Image

Then assembled onto base

Image

Then my last jigsaw gave up and i need it to cut the hole in the front of the trailer
So i'm a little bit stuck until i can beg borrow or steal another one

I finally got a jigsaw that kinda works
I needed to cut the bottom corners off so the box would clear the tow bar frame.

but when they where cut and the box placed on two mistakes where spotted

Image

the first mistake was the height. I know how that happened, because of the rebated joins i had to add 10mm to all sides of each piece of the walls to allow for the overlaps when joined together. But the top and bottom have no rebates so didn't need the extra 10mm so making the box 20mm to high

The second was the curve didn't match. No idea why. the template fits perfect to the body and to the box wall but the wall was 12mm off in the center

So i had to disassemble it all and reshape the curve with a sander.
But after a few hours extra unwanted work i'm back on track.

Image

Image

The shelf will separate the box so the top half will be accessed from inside and the lower from outside. The cutout is to allow for a new design which will add an extra foot to the center of the mattress. Jasmins brother is a bit on the lanky side and would like to borrow the trailer sometime

Today i made a redneck paddling pool and threw half a sheet of ply in it to soak for 3 hours.

Image

While the sheet was soaking i had to find something else to do, so i made a chopping board to cover over the sink and give some extra counter space.

Image

Then it was time to drain the pool.

I clamped the sheet at the top and used some weights to hold the curve down while i started with the screws.

Image

Image

It bent like stiff card around the 10 inch radius not a crack to be heard. Just have to give 24 hours to dry out now

Just realized it's been 1 year since I started Humphrey

I would like to thank everyone one on here for all the advice and ideas i may have stolen.

Also a big thanks to all those people who threw all that good wood into the local dumpsters :applause:

And a sorrowful goodbye to the following who will be missed

One cordless drill
One corded drill
Three jigsaws
One hammer
One electric staple gun
One orbital sander
One table saw
One dremmel plus countless bits
One finger nail
And a social life

And a please hang in there to one belt sander.
Please don't give up yet, just a few more days and you can go in peace :worship:

looks like you are now having the time of your life!!

nice pic's of the camp out..... that box on the front will not only help carry more you will find it will help a little with wind resistance.

in this shot you can see my box on my old trailer, it was quite a change in pulling when I put it in.

The campout was great fun. if you click any of the pics it will bring you to the rest of the album.

The front box is going to house the folding chairs the gas and the battery and sometime in the near future a folding table that will hook onto the side of the trailer.
Plus stuff like mucky boots and jack handles.
