Here is another thread that was mentioned earlier that has a few trailers designed to carry the bike inside the teardrop http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=48139
Image
Pretty cool idea, the gallery opens to the sides to make room to pull the bike in to tow.

Image
The first idea in the thread has a removable galley and soft roof looks like the easiest build to do and the cheapest

Thanks for the input guys.

Right now my main focus is on trailer construction. Most likely just build the frame and then mount axles after I build the TD. That way I can play with the weight issue.

I was thrown a curve ball. The welder I was going to buy, I was outbid on eBay. I really thought I was going to win. I bidded pretty high. Oh well.

Well I went ahead and actually made the purchase and it is being shipped.

I know how to TIG weld by the way.

So anyway, carry on!

Here is my approach to carrying a motorcycle. The rear bumper pulls out 30 inches. It also drops down so you don't bang you shins when you are using the galley.

More pictures in my album. I don't think I'll have sway problems if the axle is located in the proper postion.

I have been home a few days. Trying to setup my welding machine right. What a pain.

I had to install my trailer hitch on my car first.

Then my wife had me paint the garage....

Now I am off to the store to buy stuff, to start building...!

Got the deck laid down.

The size is going to be 5', 2" wide, and 10ft long. Doing the sides tonight.

Yes finally!

I used the GenBen profile. I really wanted to use Aggie79's profile, but I wanted it a little longer. So this is a stretched GenBen. Since it's 10ft long.

Not bad for one day's work.

Update:

Well the more I looked at the 10' long template, I didn't like it. So I scrapped that idea and made a 8' regular Genben out of masonite:

Then cut the deck down to 8' and mounted the sides.

Interior skin on....

I am wanting to build the frame myself. I haven't yet because I needed to practice TIG welding a little bit before I built the frame.

I think I have my welds good enough to build the frame. I bought some scrap tubing and welded up some joints:

I am also building my own axle, and etc... Also welding up my own aluminum boxes on the front.
More to come...

Yup, that'll do fine.

Aluminum is a whole nuther ball of wax though. Be prepared to do some studying, then more practice. Start with some thicker test pieces and work your way down.

Thanks. I've messed with aluminum a little bit. My a/c balance was off and I only had a 1/16 tungsten. But now I have a new CK torch, so things have been a lot easier.

You know about prepping the tungsten tip for AL? Zap it on some steel and get a nice fat round globule there, that way the arc is spread out and heats the AL more evenly.
