Postby mvperini » Sun Jan 23, 2011 8:49 pm

Today was a good day no rain!!!!, was going to watch football and drink beer. instead rebuilt the entry door on the trailer, i new there was some dry rot, what i planed on doing was just replacing the birch panel   had to reframe the door with new wood
Here is a picture before i started, look close and you can see the water damage top and bottom of the door

Nice work Mike!

Do you mind sharing what you are doing for the interior finish? I really like the tone.

frank I am using amber shellac the interior has 4 coats hand sanded between coats with 220 sand paper [lightly sanded] i am not sealing the finish because if you have to touch it up all you have to do is use denatured alcohol and or amber shellac.

You know what Mike?...you bring up something else that others ought to notice when looking at a vintage trailer. A door gets used a lot...check them out carefully. If it is floppy or hangs up when closing and flexes from top to bottom, chances are, it might/will need a rebuild, I'd bet on it. I'd never let a door issue deter me from buying a nice trailer like you have however, but it's something that needs to be taken care of. You've done a nice job on that one! There is nothing more satisfying than a good solid "clunk" then the door shuts and latches...kinda makes you feel like you done something good. Doug

The answer to that question (What were you thinking?) would look great silk screened on a vinyl spare tire cover; "THIS is what I was thinking..."

Every time I see your Cardinal, I'm in complete awe. It's truly gorgeous. You should be very proud of the fantastic job you've done on it - and so should she... :D
