So I was looking at this for my door and read it is a bear to put in did you have a difficult time or just thinking it out ahead make it work just fine.

Your build looks great and well thought out.

Looks like you built the door frame around the latch, rather that trying to fit the latch into pockets in the door frame.

Any concern about the door flexing with the interruption in the frame, or do the skins and inner latch plate add enough stiffness to compensate for the higher stresses at the latch?

I took the other approach, building up the area around the latch with solid blocking, router pockets and hand fitting to accommodate the irregularities.

Your method appears to be easier and lighter.

Yeah i decided to build around the latch. Went realy smooth for the most part had to get a tad longer bolts to hold the inner latch plate on. Soo far with the outer skin 1/2ply and the 1/4" inner ply there is no movement. The handle really keeps everything from moving I think. Time will tell :)

Yeah, the screws that came with my latch sets (specified for thicker doors) are too short, too. Where did you get your replacements? Any info on them?

Just ran down to the local ACE hardware and found a longer set. Forgot what pitch it was... Sorry

The screws that came with mine are self tapping and the die cast bosses are not threaded. I may have to tap them out and just source screws that are the correct length and head type.

Other option is to contact the supplier and ask for the correct longer screws.

Thanks for the reply.

I would without a doubt suggest to anyone buy the premade doors!!!! The amount of time, buying all the trim and the headache i would have been much farther along.

Rocrunr its actually zombies tied to the back of the 2 1/2 ton lol

Well i got my goals acomplished for the day. Installed the driver side window.
Image
Got the passenger side door installed. Big pain in the rear had to router a 1/8th" around the interior door edge by hand. Fits awesome. Started polyurethaning the door.
Image
Tomorrow install passenger window and get the door latch installed.

I need to drive down to the rv place and buy some butyl tape soo i can finish the hatch exterior. Going to order the new leaf springs friday and hopefully a few other things?
