Hi every one, the curves amaze me, how in the world did I do that? Maybe I should have built a weekender, naw I like this one called the jelly belly.

Progress;

A little sanding and I should be able to put on the lower skin.

I went out and fought with the rear skin today. One spar popped off and the top brace twisted. But it is on, will see, if I can fix it tomorrow when I remove the clamps.

If I can not fix it run out in the middle of a field and scream.

If they amaze you, they amaze me times 10. :? I don't quite follow how your galley is going to work, but as you get farther I'll come to understand.
If you ever did just a simple teardrop, the hatch would seem like absolutely nothing.
Just amazing. :applause:

I like how you're bracing your spars below the "waist" of the tear but I'm worried that you're not seeming to brace above there too (say about 18'' down from the top joint of the spars). I think braces there would help prevent the skins from pulling/twisting/torquing the spars?

Laredo everything below that brace is part of the body. I still need to install a brace 1/8" (I think) above that, that becomes part of the hatch. The spars above the lower brace in time will be cut, and become the structure for the hatch (to be skinned first). Does that make more sense? (If this makes sense please explain it to me, just kidding.) The twisting is due to where the strap clamps were attached, next side they will be hooked elsewhere.

OK ... but, I like what I see on your build.

I just think, for no reason I can explain, it needs more internal braces. Maybe I'm not giving the skin curve enough credit as a strengthening force.

Still, I can see how building something that complex would be fraught with temptations to run out into the parking lot screaming, some days.

In the last couple of days (it is over a 100f today) I have trimmed the tail skin I installed the other day.

I also reinstalled the spar that popped out when I put the skin on. now is time for my nap.

I put on the other side lower skin.
Image
I wish it had gone on like the other side! So hopefully I can fix the buckle after the glue dries, other wise run across the street, and across the churches field screaming.

I worked on fiberglass first thing today, then had to leave the trailer alone most of the day. This evening I trimmed the tail.

Auntie M so far so good. Then again I have not finished the fixes, more to come later. Been working on fiberglass, in places that are hard to photograph. Dragged out my heater, it is missing the outside piece that I believe keeps the rain out. I can guess what it looks like, and here is what I have.
Image
If someone has a picture of the missing piece I would be thankful. Could I recess the whole mess and put a vented cover over it? It appears to have both an intake and exhaust in it.
