Zack, have you thought about insulation for the convertable top?
Something like duct wrap, can be bought in 4 x 10 foot rolls, in thee early spring and late fall you could roll out over your screen foil side down, then dome your top in place.
Its lite and the new formulations would not have fiberglass dust and are not itchy, would roll up for storage.
1 1/2 inch would give close to R5 where not compressed over the spars

Looks like you can now get 1 inch thick also

If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

If you're going for contrast, the black seems like it would be a pretty good choice. Matches up with pretty much anything and is easily accented with black paint.

You could, of course, do that with the brown but finding a matching brown paint in the rustoleum could prove difficult. Black should be easy to match.

TJinPgh wrote:Maybe tie it in with the galley and the interior. use it for cabinet door and drawer inserts. That would look pretty cool.

I did use the same brown vinyl for my dog-door and a/c door in the lower galley, but might be able to use more somewhere. I thought about doing a vinyl interior skin for the hatch that can snap on and off like the top.

I'll have to go back and look through the pics again. I missed where you'd used it beyond the top (or, you just didn't take any pics of of).

An interior skin for the hatch might be cool, though.

When all else fails.... padded headboard's always come in handy, lol.

I'll be going to a music festival at the end of April, so that should be interesting with the trailer. I can just picture a bunch of hippies surrounding the trailer trying to figure out what the hell it is and why there are so many different colors of light coming from it. Time to crank up the Bassnectar!!

Oh, if they're really hippies they're liable to have a pretty good idea why there are so many different color lights, hehe.

Just remember, what happens in the X....

hey Zack I thought of another way you could tie the brown in You could have wheel covers for when your parked so other dogs to squirt on them and how about a picnic table cover it would tie in everything to your camp

Hey all!

I saw the X-II in person today! :D

Looks 99% as good in person as it does in pics!! Just had to say that ya know?? :R

Really nice job, except for that hatch leak!! (maybe I should not have mentioned that) Should be a minor fix though. We had lots of rain yesterday and last night so Zach got to 'weather test' it.

Yes, it is indeed true that there was a leak on the right side of the hatch. Just found out at lunch time when I was talking with Kerry.

Guess I'll just have to rip everything apart down to the frame and start over. :o

Looks like some water probably crept in right at the end of the hinge. It should be as simple as adding a piece of weatherstrip and a dab of caulk. :NC  :worship:

Better to find out now, rather than when its loaded up with food and gear!

I added two pieces of weatherstrip. One piece is on the underside of the hatch lip, where it will meet up with the original weatherstrip. The other little piece I added is right where the end of the hurricane hinge rotates down onto the side wall. Hopefully thats all it takes. I may get the hose out this weekend and spray it down to be sure.

Then I got to work on the white vinyl top. Same boring tedious process as the brown top. But the end result is a bit more "fun".

Looks good, doesn't it?! :D

Just wait until the lights go out.

That's the reason I wanted to avoid insulating the white top. I'm uploading a video to Youtube right now, and will post it as soon as I can.
