When setting up a 12v lighting system, do I need to earth each item I install, or can i just run the positive and negative wires to each item, and use the + & ~ poles on the battery?

Just run twin core wire from the lights back to your fuse box. I have a fuse box under the galley bench with a heavy wire going from that to battery +, and a common terminal for the earth side with heavy wire from there to battery -.

Yea I've done pretty much the same thing.
I have a negative buss bar separate to the fuse box (some fuse box's have negative and positives buss are included and even switches).
You can run more than one fuse box depending on how much you want to connect .

I have been quite lately, been on holiday to the batch in Coromandel, now I am back working on the teardrop, just waiting for the Bamboo Ply to be delivered so I can line the inside, then the outside liners & Roof can be glued and screwed in place.

We had three nights away, one in Miranda, then Shelley Beach just out of Coromandel township, and at Cooks Beach.

Didn't really have time to look, and the weather wasn't all that encouraging for swimming, except in the hot pools at Miranda. The hill across the road from the camp is still covered with bush, but there are driveways going up to private residences hidden in the bush.

Today, 5th May, I have done the internal lining, Bamboo Ply, and the outside insulation, next will be the wiring, until I save up enough to purchase the outside cladding.
