Strop wrote:Dale, which Sika adhesive did you use and why?

I used several variants but mostly 11fc.
11fc is incredably flexable with a realy high bond strength joining dissimilar materials.
I used a biy of 221 assembly adhesive as well but its a bit costly.
Sellys armourflex is another realy good adhesive verry similar to 11fc.
I forgot what i was suposed to send you information wise mate youll have to refresh my memory.
Have you started your build yet?

Thanks KC glad you aprove it means alot.
I got the aluminium sheets installed today but im not realy happy with the front join.
To make the sheets work i had to join it right on the apex of the front radius and the tensions left it sitting up a little.
Its sealed and isnt an issue it just annoys me.
I might try to find some trim to cover it.

You can see the join i dont like....im considering putting a molding of some description over it possibly or swapping the screws for rivets maybe...

Dale, yes build started. Held up with trailer. Hope to get rear cupboards to install status this weekend then walls go up, hence the question on Sika.

That seam looks okay in the pic. What don't you like about it?

If it is just the appearance if the screw heads that is bothering you, perhaps consider trim washers to dress them up some and maybe spread the puckers out a little?

Ugliness averted.

It was doing my head in,just a realy bad place for a join and they didnt sit completly together.
I went and got some sealed aluminium rivets this morning and swaped them over the put an aluminium D molding over the top with sikaflex.
Needs the glue tidied up but looks so much better.
Ive installed the huricane hinge and all the roof trim, seales and fixed down the top join.

I like that metallic and green paint look, it's looking great!

Now I'm a slacker with my slow progress build.

Well ive just come inside after another day at it.
Thanks guys and yea much happier now with that join.
Ive final fixed all the edge trim as i said earlier and the lights.
Ive wasted so much money on those lights its embaressing.
They came with G5.4 globe holders and they are hard to find especialy over 1.5 watt.
So i got new bulb holders and 1.5 watt leds and broke them trying to twist them like the guy at jaycar told me to.
Lights 160 alterations 70.....found in the shed some adhesive 42 smd led pannels and ended up fitting them....
Ill take some pics with them going when it gets dark but they look plenty bright enough.
Got some more rubber infil trim and fitted it tonight.
For the most part im very happy with the quality of finish ive achieved.
Like everyone else theres things im not super happy with but it realy is starting to look good.
Very happy with the colour choice against the aluminium.
Ill post some pics soon once ive resized them

IMO it's okay to spend a few more shekels or a bit (...bunch) more time and special care on a few "signature items". Those light fixtures and the character of that textured skin are just some of the things that definitely set your build apart from "the standard build". Look at it this way, the deal you got on the sheet goods was what allowed you to splurge on the lights. I know it's always frustrating when something we spend good money on goes bad (the holders/lamps) but you will soon forget about that "pain" and will be pleased every time you look at the fixtures with pride.

Very true kc,ive made a few decisions that as you said realy set it apart from the norm.
I could have put composite panel sides on it but i did it the hard way with the pmf and dont regrett it for a second.
It needed something heavily textured to work with that sheet.
And the lights yea...ill just forget what they cost and enjoy peoples faces trying to work out what they are lol

Hi Dale
Your build is looking Great!
Glad to see you are making such good progress......especially with your Camping Season approaching.
I too found a very pricey light for my Galley while building "Miss Piggy" that I truly love! Which made it well worth the money I spent.
So.......when I started Kermit and went down my list of things I needed to buy to replicate the things that work so well for us in MP,
I found and ordered another one of these Great lights.
Unfortunately, a month later I ordered another one, forgetting about ordering the first one (sucks to get old??)
So now I have two  ........guess I will have to build a third Teardrop now!
Keep up the good work man!
