Start of the Kompact Kruiser

Postby Rickxr2 » Sun Jan 23, 2011 10:58 am

I've decided to build a new trailer. Smaller than a canned ham, bigger than most teardrops. I'll be building on an old pop up frame with 13" tires and torsion axle. The trailer will be about 9' long, 6' wide and 5' interior height. I plan on putting the bed sideways, allowing for a porta potty in the front corner. A/C on the tongue and galley in the back. Hope I can get started soon.

I like that profile and layout!

Is your tongue box going to be for AC, battery/propane storage, or something else?

The tongue box will be for A/C. If there is room I might put the battery there too. The upper part of the tongue box will be for inside storage.

You probably have this figured out already, but it looks like your rear hatch might be a little close to the ground. I can only judge by looking at the 5' interior height and guestimating. You may have to fold your hatch up all the way. It looks like it's only about 4 1/2 feet off the ground.

I like the profile alot, the bump in the front gives it real character! I'm thinking something this size for my next build, so I will be anxiously watching your progress.

Time has NOT been on my side. I started the build then put it off a few months, now back at it. I'm about ready to skin the exterior, so I'm way behind on posting photos. I started with an old pop up frame, got the floor on and one side installed.

This is the cabinet under the bed. The cabinet will store the boards to convert the couch to a bed. I built as much of the interior as possible before adding the other wall, easier to lean over rather than crawl in.

Side walls up and beginning to skin the top. Used decorative rope for the welting, and roof nails to the top of the walls, before the stringers. My wall paneling is recycled, it's really dark 30 year old paneling out of a den, I used the back side.

This one is going to have a fridge. The days of coolers and ice are gone, I hope.

Yep, I had a little problem with time management. I can't believe this has taken me so long. BUT, it's about to come together!
