Be Gentle- First build!

Postby bam1028 » Mon Feb 04, 2013 9:32 pm

I am about 75 or more of the way done just small things left to do. I finished my door after cursing it for a week. I was proud of the way the camper is starting to turn out. I just had to share. Sorry about the mess but I hear that's a badge of honor around here. I have never posted pics because I was scared my work wasn't good enough but dang it I'm proud101933101932101934[album][/album]

Looks good! Can't wait to see pics of it at a campground!

What did you finish it with? the corners look very smooth like fiberglass work or something.

It was five or six coats of glazing putty. I put alot of effort in that and thanks for noticing!

I can appreciate how much effort that took. Years ago I build a subwoofer box and did that. Just that little box took way more hours than I care to remember.

Nice work!

Hi Bam1028,

Looks good to me !

A very nice example of a straightfoward design, nicely
executed. Just give more details now ! We all love to
see the pics and narrative showing how each build goes
from idea to fruition - and camping ready.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

Hey Bam great job and like Norm said we all like lots of pics, maybe we'll see you sometime at one of the state parks over in SC as we camp there often and at the Corp parks on Lake Hartwell!

Cliff
In God we trust, shoot the rest and he will sort out!

Thanks everybody for the kind words. Only a small amount done today got the curtain rods and curtains hung and weatherstripping for the door. I have to order a mattress so I will search back through some of the discussions about it for recommendations. Cliff I imagine one our first trips will be to lake Hart well or Calhoun falls state park(one of my favorite place on earth). May go to Elberton to Richard b Russell. But I guess I better not put the cart before the horse and finish the camper. Thanks again everybody.101956101955

Looks good.

The slight slope on the back will really help to keep water collecting on the top as you camp. Mine is round
up front but the hinge for the hatch traps water from sliding off the back. I have to set up my camper lower
in the front to stop water from pooling.

What type of door knob did you use? I'm trying to find a replacement for new doors.

The door knob is a locking screen door type from the local ace hardware. I had to make a a latch catch out of scrap wood and aluminum angle iron. Its very simple and it works . Took some playing with to get the depth right.

I camped last weekend at Sadlers Creek State Park. Had really cool neighbors in a Little Guy hope they had as much fun as I did.
