Light weight drawers

Postby Treeview » Sun Aug 25, 2013 12:43 pm

Pretty soon its going to be time to work on cabinets and drawers for the ToyBox. Now I'm gathering info to decide how much I build myself and what's available built.

Here's one set of light weight drawers that I found... :?

I have a few of drawers like these already already:

Simple construction like this maybe?

A combo of ply and plastic storage makes a sturday and decent looking light weight set. When we were keeping snakes and other creepy crawlies we built a rack with plywood, hand made wood J channels, and a set of storage tubs. frame held everything up, ply kept it sturdy and slitherers in place.

I never bothered to take pics of one of mine but this one from google is similar

I had soild plywood between each shelf.

That's along the lines of what I'm thinking...without the snakes!

I used these baskets that slide out. Got them at Ikea in the closet department. Ten bucks each.

Baskets are under consideration too. Light and durable. It's a shake of the dice trying to find a plastic unit that is flexible. Too often the plastic is brittle...even at comfy temps, much less when its cold.

Another idea using plastic tubs.

Tubs and cleats is the simplest setup.
I've been looking on Ikea's website along with some plastic wholesalers. I'd like to find some with a variety of depths but the same length and width. That would make it easy to move them around in the cabinet depending on what I want at the top.

I just found this source:

http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/usa/html/onlineshop/fullrange_rub.php

Lots of heights with the same width and depth to make cabinet construction easier.
