Little Red Benroy

Postby TxDave » Tue Mar 17, 2015 9:55 pm

Well, I built another one. This one took 37 days from start to finish. I fabricated the frame from 2x2 square tubing. I decided to go with 14" wheels instead of the 12" I used on my previous builds.

I used my router to cut the Dado joints for the bulkheads and cabinets. First time to try this and it went well. The walls are 3/4" oak plywood.

I fabricated the hatch frame from 3/4" square steel tubing. This made for a light weight yet rigid hatch.

I used this spring galley hatch prop from Vintage Technologies. Works well and is easy to install.

We went for a simple galley layout on this build. Still has lots of room to store stuff.

I used these draw tight latches from McMaster Carr for a tight seal on the galley hatch.

Here's a shot of the simple interior cabinet layout and electrical setup.

And...here's the finished product out for its first test tow. The pre-painted red aluminum really attracts attention.

Thanks, Brian. I am really enjoying building these things. Working on a project in the garage is my therapy.

Dave,

What did you end up with for weight on this design?

Thanks

Looks nice and tidy. What is the tube sleeve mounted to the side wall outside of the galley prop? Kind of looks like a flag staff holder. I'm guessing some sort of canopy leg support.

Pete...it weighs 902 pounds.

KCStudly...that's a mount for my self-designed high-def TV antenna.
