Hey Louella...I remember reading your thread a few days ago but I somehow missed your back hatch/galley area...do you have any albums? I can't find them...would love to see more pics of that back area, etc. very cool!

Hey dj..

just catching up on the thread here and you ask some great questions. Yes you can build a hatch that opens in the rear to access a galley. I didn't though because that hatch hinge seems to be a major source of water intrusion for the conventional teardrop builder. I went with double doors. As far as building a hatch, it really is much like building a door. A frame to support the hatch covered by foam is all you really need. You can make a frame of 1 x 2 's and it should be plenty strong enough to support the foam and keep it from tweaking. If you're not sure 2 x 2's would work without getting too heavy.

Linen should give you a better finish, and if bedsheets are big enough, go to the fabric store and buy it off the roll. If you walk in and look lost enough, one of the ladies will help you... I think they know that guys have no idea what to do in a fabric store.

Wow...check out this foamie! He did the roof using ultra high molecular weight polyethylene plastic....anyone else done this? I doubt if it's insulated but what a easy way to install a roof!

Sigh...the uhmw plastic is way too expensive...I did find HDPE for $115 for a 48" x 96" sheet. Would this work as well as the UHMW? It seems similar in features and properties as far as I can tell. I wonder if it's really that much more expensive? If you add up the cost of the foam, paint and canvas you would use for a foamie roof maybe they would come out about the same?
