Thrifty Alternatives ..Building Foam Campers

I finally found the MSDS sheets on the stuff. The big difference ( that I can see ) Is the HV1 ( marine ) has crystalline silica in it. That does make it a bit more hazardous when dry and sanding. If it is not sanded much before painting, Or use some protection, It probably is not bad after painted. Specialy on the outside. Inside I might not like it as well.

In reading the description on the Airgas site

CHIL-SEAL® CP-50A MV1 ( stuff not needed edited out ) does not attach plastic foams or other adhesives.

Does not "Attach Plastic Foams"???? probably a typo and should say, does not attack foams.

Now there is stuff labeled with the ending of MV1 and stuff with HV1

I'm so confused

I saw that too but if you read the Airgas site for the MV2 the description is almost identical except that description says "attack" not "attach". I think it's a typo. I'm can't wait to see the reports when someone uses it

The builder has to be tapping into the same inspiration pool as the builder
of the Stroemliner and its trailer the Dreamliner!!!

This is an add on to Tiredoldwhiteman's earlier post in the big thread in the
Foamie Section [Thanks for posting it!] about the Blastolene Motorhome,
or more appropriately the "Decoliner."

I just went through their web site, totally interesting, but the main thing
is I came across a link to a Jay's Garage video of it [11:29 min]. The builder,
Randy Grubb, took a 1973 GMC FWD Motor Home chassis and the cab of a
1950s White COE truck and a lot of aluminum and came up with this amazing
"drivable sculpure". It still needs the interior to be finished out - partially
done now - but what a result for 15 month's effort!

AND it is drive-able from both the 'flying bridge', like a large boat, as well as
the normal driving seat/postion. Just lift off the regular steering wheel, attach
the link to the flying bridge's steering column/wheel and away you can go
with your head about 11ft 6in above the street!

I got to the Decoliner video by clicking on the "Piss'd off Pete" link to
Jay Leno's Garage while in their links section and saw the Decoliner under
it as a 'related' video. Really glad I clicked on it!

OK, so you got your foam home and it’s all marred up with depressions and dents ... the cure .... pour boiling water over it ... Amazingly enough it leaves the surface like new ... Try it on scrap ... it works ...

Eagle , that is a Very COOL trailer ... Shouldn’t be hard to reverse engineer ... maybe make a model first , just to get everything right ...

i think if you had some technical brains this might not be a problem. however, you know i have no technical anything, so it would be a problem for me. but one can dream.
(and who knows, tax refund season is only a month away)

i am seriously thinking i will buy another trailer, so i can do another build. i gave my foam to my hubby, so i will start something different. hubby decided to use some of the foam for a door and other miscellaneous stuff on a shed he is building out of junk wood and other thrifty sources. he reminds me of you gpw.

we are not 100% sure, but i might be doing my 8th trip this year. i so hope so, keep your fingers crossed it happens. i am so ready for another short trip. and i am so excited to get simba out there camping also.
