Not to be too OT (yet again  ) I’ve got a problem with my balcony . The paint keeps pealing off on the top cap ... Thought I’d apply some Foamie technology and sand the cap down to wood (again) then cover it with a piece of canvas (t2 or Gripper ) then Paint it ... see how that works .... It sure worked on my Foamie ... Just an idea ...

A interesting question. PL 300 says it is used for gluing foam to other substrates and to itself. 7 day recommended full cure time and it is acrylic latex based too.

I tried some PL300 when I made up my SIP floor - I've found a latex contact cement so I'll be using that in the future instead.
First, it needs to warm - unless it's room temperature or better, the bead won't stick. That doesn't matter so much if you're gluing on the flat (like a floor) but it's a mess if you're doing anything vertical.

PL goes down as a bead, whereas contact uses 100% surface area for gluing. I wanted the bond spread out over the whole panel rather than at the bead.
I tried warming the tube and then spreading it with a notched trowel, but it's a bit too sticky to trowel well. Perhaps if one were to thin it a little ?
And yeah, it took a long time to cure and, even after a week, it was still rubbery (granted, conditions were much less than ideal)

FWIW, I'd use it to tack foam in place if working indoors except that it still needs the time to cure...
IMHO there are better options than PL300, given how we're using the foam.

Spray foam and GG both require an even clamping force (concrete pavers). Slightly thickened epoxy works great but $$$.
Others have had success with 3M 30NF (latex contact cement). I haven't tried Gripper so I don't know about that, but it certainly looks promising.
The contact I bought (30NF not available here) was about $40 for 1.5 l (a quart and a half) at a small-town hardware store.

Then there is the lagging compound, if you can get your hands on it. Rosie used it on her boat. I would like to hear from some one that has used both the Gliden Gripper and lagging compound. Actually would like to see the lagging compound just to see what it is.

Here's the info on lagging compound

CHIL-SEAL CP-50A MV1 coating is a white coating which is also an excellent adhesive. It brushes easily and yet forms a tough film even over surfaces such as canvas. Being a water based material, it is safe to use; it does not attack plastic foams or other adhesives. Brushes and tools are easily cleaned with water. CHIL-SEAL CP-50A MV1 coating is fire resistive and contains a preservative for protection against mildew. It is also available in Marine Grade (CP-50A HV2 coating), which meets the new MIL-A-3316C specification.See http://www.fosterproducts.com/Images/ch ... 0A_MV1.pdf and http://www.fosterproducts.com/Images/ch ... 0A_HV2.pdf for more information than you'd like

Wooden canoe builders were/are using it to fill the weave on their canvas prior to paint. I'd thought about using it but I couldn't find it locally and didn't want to experiment with it since it was so hard to get.

I think it has real potential.

Yes. Like how does it take paint? How does it take weather? How is it long term? Anti mildew properties, probably not good for the interior until further notice. Unless you have a fungal problem anyway.

Interesting they mentioning using a 50/50 water mix for a primer ...
QUOTE:
" THE CONDITION OF THE SURFACE TO BE ADHERED OR COATED
Certain surfaces which are dusty or porous such as calcium silicate or certain mineral fiber materials should first be primed with a light coat of CHIL-LAG® CP-52 adhesive diluted 50% with water for proper bonding. A coating or adhesive will adhere no better than the integrity of the surface to which it is applied. “

i am starting to get the second build itch. :D refunds should be coming in within the next week, so i have been thinking about foamie II. i think the floor is the one thing that has had me boggled with the way my trailer has tha lip. i also think i might have it figured out. so hopefully within the next 2 weeks i might have a floor, once that is done i can start working up. :wine:
