KC , it was only from much prior artistic experience that I had to draw on to do this ... I’ve long had the “Curse of Making” ... where I was more content with making something myself rather than buying it , which teaches us Nothing eh ! Making it myself usually results in a much better Quality project than commercial offerings , all seemingly now constructed on a “price point “ (Read: as Cheap as possible :o ) . And although I’ve made many many things over the years , the only thing I never learned was how to make Money ... :o :R    But I’m still here ... for now ...

Ps. I’d consider your trailer as FINE an example as we’ve ever seen of the Quality you get making it yourself !!!! 8) 8) 8) :applause: :D

Just had an idea ... ... Covering all the seams with FDT (fiberglass drywall tape) ... I have a Bunch of it ... can’t hurt eh , and the narrow stuff will easily fit/bend around the nose curve... Just more "reinforcing strips" under the canvas ... adds very little weight ... Hmmm ???
You can see it’s stuck fast to the bottom of the nose... (Gripper)

Managed to get out for a couple minutes and trim the filler off ... Now on to a final sanding (when it cools off ) and we’ll be ready to move to the stern ... and “the door” ... :o :frightened:

Good thing about taking pictures , in different lighting situations , some “imperfections" show up and must be tended to .. More sanding ... ;)

Note: One might notice that prominent “Lip” mid ways down on the front , the result of the bottom sheet being waaaaay thicker than the next one up ... Trying to take this Happy Accident as a “design element ... The pics are starting to remind me of an old Locomotive  ... wouldn’t be hard to put a big light up front with a foam fairing ... and a big a** Air Horn ..... but I digress..

Funny that you should pull those pic’s up. I just went digging all through your gallery looking for the pic of your amp and couldn't find it. That's exactly what I was thinking when you first mentioned the train thing.

... but the colors and theme will almost certainly clash with the purple velvet and sheer fabrics of the genie bottle interior! (Like a dog with a bone I am on that subject... grr... can't get it away from me!)

Ooh !! that’s true huh :o ... The clash might be too much to bear  ... Actually I told the wife that I’d paint it a very light light blue , because as we found with automobiles , the light blue holds up well, doesn’t fade as much as other colors , and unlike White , generates enough heat to burn off any Moisture present ... She seemed to approve  ... and purple being an analogous color fits right in .. ;) Guess we’d better stick with “the Plan” ..

Still too HOT to do any more sanding (94F) , think we’ll just start again fresh in the morning ... Already showered up and clean now ... no use getting all sweaty again ...Tried some moisturizing lotion on my hands and arm to help get the GS off ... that didn’t do anything .... Sticky stuff .. :NC

Looking forward to a Nice evening of REST in the AC before the wife returns from NJ tomorrow

WOW!

I go away for two weeks and find my poor little project sitting in the foam dust.
Time to get back at it, I'm hoping to use mine the first week of August.

Well done on the FoamStream !!

Locomotive look would be cool. Is there enough foam in the nose to create "the locomotive look"? Looks great!

Great job on the quarter-orb sculpting GPW ! I hope the interior
sculpting goes as 'smoothly' for you too. [The pun seemed necessary !]

If you, "Just for pretty", put a locomotive light on the front, you
should at least then put a couple of fins on the back - Think 1958
Desoto fins ! They'd make bitchin [to borrow a surfing term] rear
tail-lights. [Just Google Image "1958 Desoto Tail Lights" for a fast reference.]

Or Google Image "Art Deco Locomotives" or "Streamlined Locomotives" too.

And to carry it even further... Google Image "Flash Gordon's Spaceship"

How about putting a shorter [a foot or so] projecting visor-like roof on the
rear ? It'd give some protection when opening the rear door in the rain and the
slight rear angle that it'd provide would be visually interesting...

Watch yourself in the heat too ! It is just so enervating and it will make it
much too easy to make a mistake and end up hurting yourself.

Regarding shaky ladders:
One thing I've done to avoid using ladders was to build a box out of 3/4 inch
plywood, about ~2ftWide x~3ftLong x~18inchesHigh, [it was a former pet Cocker
Spaniel's doggie bed/cage if truth is to be known] that I use as a platform to
stand on. It lets me avoid standing on a ladder step - I just can't do that anymore - to
do a job I need more 'reach or height' on. I also made a small set of steps,
[two 7inch-high steps, about 2ftWide], out of scrap 2x4 and 2x6 pieces I had,
to match the shorter side of my platform box. It is by far much more stable
and comfortable to work from. Just don't put all your weight too close to one
edge of it at a time. Additional stability can be obtained by screwing a couple
4-6 foot long 1x or 2x boards, as outriggers of sorts,to the box's bottom if they
won't interfere with the job. I'd highly recommend you build such a setup,
if possible. Is is worth it for comfort sake alone, besides any safety aspects.
Also, an upright, about 3ft higher that the box's top surface, attached at/to
one of the box's corner's, to act as a 'railing' of sorts, would probably be a
good idea too - I'll have to add one to mine, and I'd make it detachable
too for easier storage. If you make the box 'presentable' enough 'looking',
you can use it as an extra seat, or ottoman, or storage bin when you're not
using it as a platform for a job. One could also design it so that the steps
could be stored inside or fold into the platform box, if the desire to do so
and the time allowed.

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

Today , more sanding , I’ll try to be careful ;) ... Thinking of getting a scaffold , I’ll need one to paint the house interior ...another “project" forthcoming ... :frightened:

Just going to finish up the trailer (plain) first then see what it needs ... one of those ongoing projects .. The Goal now is to just get the outside done , so we can use it for it’s primary purpose ... If needed...

Carving out the inside of the nose should be interesting working in reverse... just like hollowing out a melon ... a foam melon .. :R Part of the plan is to mark a bunch of bamboo skewers to the depth of foam we want I ...stick them into the outside , up to the mark , and I’ll know when to stop hollowing when it hits a tip. (cheap depth guide)

Thinking of ways to remove the extra foam inside :
1. a soldering gun with a big loop of wire to slice out the foam .
2. a drill with a wire brush .
3. use the coarsest sandpaper I can fine on a rounded block ...

any other suggestions would be appreciated .... seems any way I can think of is gonna’ be Messy :o ... everything else has been so far ...

More hand sanding ... smoothing out now ... ... more to go ... Tired already !!!
Still have some small gaps (grrrr!!!) . I do have some sheetrock mud ... may give that a try for final smoothing and leveling ... paint sticks to it ... Then the FDT and Gripper ... that should make it pretty smooth , with More sanding :duh: ... Thinking I’ve spent more time and energy on the Nose than anything else ... :o “ Scientific" would have been easier in the long run ... that and uniform thickness sheets .... maybe on the Next one ...
