Found Some Windows !!

Postby CampsALot » Tue May 21, 2013 7:20 pm

Found some used windows today. 8)

Dual pane, horizontal sliders with screens and trim rings.
Paid $110 each. Maybe expensive but not compared to new.

Now I need to find a smaller one for the door and possibly a fixed window for the tilt up galley wall...

Updated the build thread a little today as well. :pictures:

I am looking to put these in my trailer.
They come in different sizes.
Seem to be pretty thrifty.
Safty glass and screens.

Those are some nice windows. I bought my windows at an RV salvage yard in Sacramento, CA. I paid for windows by the square inch. Probably one of the single most expensive items but it sure beats having to try and build something like that! Keep it going!

GPW, I like that design, pretty simple. Looks like it could be done with a router. ( if I had a CNC machine, I'd use it though. )

A question about mounting these windows in a foam wall...

The windows are designed for a two inch wall, so far so good, but...
When the wall is foam, is it strong enough?
The windows weigh about twenty pounds each. I would hate to see them to pop out of the wall as I drove down the road.

For those who've built a foamie with canvas out and fabric inside. How rigid is the wall?
I am planning on putting a wood frame around the cutout for the window to clamp against.

To me I think the 2" foam is plenty strong for a ring clamp style window.

That's exactly how I put mine in. I just cut out a hole of the right size, stuck them in and they're in good. I had thought about framing the opening but after I cut the hole and clamped them in, I decided I didn't need to frame them.

Warren , you only have to do a few “experiments “ to prove to yourself how Strong skinned foam really is ... The foam is Not that strong by itself , but when a skin is applied to inside and out it becomes very Strong and yet still light ... No worries ...
When this first got started , some time ago , everyone HAD to prove it to themselves with all manner of experiments , now we casually accept it as , "Yeah , that works “ ;)

For instance , here’s the maul hammer test ... 79717
