Here's some window awnings that we saw this past week. Now I know you are not looking for window awnings, but perhaps you can apply the same idea to your roof awnings.

The first link you posted reminds me of the Kelty car tarp.

Rope and Pole Awning

Postby Kristi Foster » Fri Sep 25, 2009 10:12 am

Have you considered a basic Vintage Look Rope and Pole awning that slides into an awning rail? By request, I am using some of my small remnants of Sunbrella and adding No-See-Um netting for a small bug free enclosure.I am also working on an easier set-up without tie downs. I hope to have the new ideas to present at the Georgia Rally.

The second may be a little more complicated to build, but in the end, it would be easier to use.

I had a sailmaker sew my Puck awning. Just a 7 X 9 in Sunbrella with awning rail welt. I'm considering adding a rail to the VW. If I have welt on both sides and park paralell, then I would need just the center ridgepole.

I used 2 adjustable poles, 2 ropes and some studs on the trailer edge, as opposed to the track, it fits on either side. It's a real eye catcher and I love it! Doug

Very nice Doug. How about a close-up of the stud if you get a chance?

The stud has a screw base and a twist top to hold the awning in place. It's typical of what used to be used on boats and older cars with canvas tops. The real good idea I had was to use some shock corded glass poles, cut down to fit the awning. I had Marti sew in some pockets in each corner with a piece of velcro to hold them in place in the center of the top. I'm 6'2" and can stand under it with no problem, much higher than the side of the tear where it is attached. They really punch up the flat surface of the awning, and it won't collect water....it survived the Dam Gathering and we got 6 inches of it there, awning up the whole time. Worked for me. Doug

Doug.... Where did you get your studs? That is exactly what I need for mine.

I got them from Marti when she did the awning. I specifically asked for that type mounting system. I don't know of an exact source, but there should be plenty of them around to get them from. Doug

Another awning option and one that was the best solution for me in this common teardrop quest for shelter: Teardrop Awning Solution!

I like that awning Scott! Looks great and gives you all sorts of head room.
I used the 777300 studs from Endo's post. Half as many holes to put in the tear roof, sealed them underneath with 3M 5200. Doug

That is a cool awning.

I especially like the shorthair pointer. I lost mine in the spring. They are great dogs. Thanks for the post.
