Custom Cooleman Fabric print

Looky what came in the mail today!

I must say I’m impressed with the way the fabric turned out. The printing was exactly the way I submitted the image. I was going for a cartoonish rendering of Coleman lanterns and it turned out spectacular.
This is the JPEG I sent them

Yeah – it’s a bit pricey at $18.00 yrd, but where else can you find such a design. The shipping was fast as well – it took fives days to print and ship and just a few days to arrive. The best thing is that this design in my account – so If I need more – I just place an order for what I need.

Nice!! And what are you going to make with it? Do I see a military model lantern there, we have two of those, new in the box, never used. Mary & Bob

Scott...that looks great! How does the ink penetration look on it? I'd cut a strip and wash it with a load of clothes to see if it's going to fade or not. Find out now how to launder it so you don't goof up a sewing project afterwards. It won't run like a dye so you shouldn't have to worry about the rest of the clothes. Doug

Doug – what I ordered was the quilt weight which is similar to the ladybug pattern used on the curtains of the lady bug.
Image
I compared the two and found them to be very similar in print bleed and fabric weight.. There doesn’t appear to be any bleed troughs ( like you’d get with ink jets after a cleaning on white paper). Nor is there any raised spots from printing – It appears like any other printed fabric. The tan background is consistent all the way through with no streaking. I was surprised how well it matched what I had submitted.

However, I did find a few spots where it looked like a spot had shown up – but after later investigation and the repeating of said spot – I found that I had not erased an artifact in one of the images! It was MY fault – should have check it one more time – but it’s so small it’s not noticeable to anyone except me. I’m stoked about this new textile option. Just remember – what you submit is what you get!

It would be neat to pick one lantern and have a single large size printed for an accent pillow.

Oh man, I'm thinking of lots of pillows I want.

So Rev. Scott, could your Coleman hobby be bordering on idolatry?

Hmmmm, we haven't had an exorcism at a SC gathering -- yet.

Ok, as a quilter who started her tear quilt before my husband started the frame, I can't help it. Trying to imagine what a quilt would look like with that fabric for you trailer. What do you think Doug? I am thinking I would want to highlight the linear quality of the lanterns, (and keep the cost of the fancy fabric down) so use it maybe as horizontal stripes with larger rows of other fabrics. Example, A nice green/red coleman looking plaid in a 12" or more row, bordered by red and green in maybe a 2" row on either side, then a row of two lanterns (however wide that is), then green and red again. Hard to visualize, Doug do you have the fancy electric quilt you can download your own fabric samples into? I only have the cheapo version. I will see what I can do, but something like this:

red row
lantern row
red row
green row
plaid row
green row
red row
lantern row
red row
green row
plaid row
green row
red row
etc etc.

What an exciting to addition to our possibilities with tear decorating!

Here is a very rough rendering, not to size of course, of a possibility for a lantern coleman quilt. Imagine the red/green graphic large row to be colemanesque plaid.

 Just can't do this justice out of microsoft word!
