And so it begins.... (The build)

Postby laroosta » Sat Mar 23, 2013 7:11 pm

I bought a trailer I found on Craigslist back in June of 2012. Not long after that I found out that we would be hosting a wedding reception in October of 2012, so a major remodel project began to the "pavillion" where the wedding reception would take place. At the end of the remodel, my shoulder hurt so much that it would wake me up throbbing every night.........long story made short, I had anextensive rotary cuff repair done in November of 2012........(this really put a dent in my hunting plans, but furthermore delayed the construction of my teardrop. I went to physical therapy for 8 weeks and finished up in January. With the help from my good friend Donny (my right arm) construction started shortly after my last p.t. session. Here are the pictures of what we've done so far:

All stripped down. I decided to build over the tires to gain some width. :D

I used the treated lumber from the trailer deck to build the frame for the floor.

Storage compartments. Notice the added 2x2 under the frame. I felt like I needed a little more tire clearance.

103543103544103545

Plywood down over the frame.....compartment covers in place.

103546103547

Pattern complete.

103549103550

Used a bisquit jointer to join plywood for the sides. Ratchet straps tokeep it tight while drying. (3-23-13) Up to date as far as photo's now. Sorry for the condensed version of the beginning construction. Now that I'm up to date, I will try to post pictures on a daily basis.

I plan to extend the tongue by at least 2 feet, maybe 2 1/2........making room for a tongue box.

That's about it for now. I did download the Generic Benroy Plan to get some basic ideas. I also plan to use the "cookie cutter" method to lighten up the sides as they will be cut out of 3/4 " plywood.

I'm very pleased with the side profile. :D

I'm on call this week, so I'll have to "play it by ear" as far as getting anything done on the camper. :D

Thanks pappaw :D It kind of reminds me of an oversized "Cubby" in some ways. I've been looking around at different shapes and sizes for a couple of years now.........I guess once the stars and planets were in line, this is what flowed out onto the drawing board....... lol.

You are at one of the best points in a build. Once you get those small looking walls off the bench and up in place, you can actually sit inside and get a feel for what it is going to be like. That's when you really get excited about the whole thing. At least it was for me anyway.

Good luck and keep going, it only gets better.

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I've posted. Work, weather, honey=do list etc., But finally I had a couple of good weekends and was able to get quite a bit done. We, (my friend Donny and I) spent about 3 days framing (screwd and glued) with 2 x 2's. It's amazing how everything seems sturdy now. Image

I keep the camper covered when I'm not working on it...........the tarp on top gives an awesome visualization of what the top/ceiling shape looks like. It's really getting exciting, the further we get into the build.

Thanks, and I hope to be able to post more soon. :)

I finally had some free time to get back on the build. I decided to use plastic paneling for the front section which will be used for storage. Donny adding "final touches".
