Speedracer's 7x16 Toy Hauler build

Postby speedracer170 » Sat Mar 23, 2013 2:53 am

Well I sold my KZ Sportsmen Toy hauler last year when I was suppose to move to England, instead of spending the money of getting another one I decided to get a Haulmark 6x12. Well I decided I wanted a trailer big enough to store my bike and still be able to sleep in it so we sold it and now own a 7x16 Look element.

Insulated the walls with 3/4 inch foam board and 1 inch for the roof.

Decided I wanted a wall to seperate the garage from the living quarters so I didn't have to smell gas all night. The garage is 7' and the living quarters is 8' plus the V nose.

Welcome aboard Speedracer

Nice truck & trailer :D :D

Make sure you keep your trailer balanced, if all the weight is in the back while towing
Keep posting pictures & questions if you need help.

The smell gas and oil all night would have been one of my concerns as well so good idea. Welcome to the forum.

You can put more in the ceiling by placing 1/2" (or to fit) between your furring strips..........I was able to put a total of 2" in the middle 3' of the ceiling and 1-1/2 on the outer edges..........see my album for pictures.........

You stole my idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a Supermoto rider. And I am saving up for a 7x16 with a 7' interior. And going to build a partition just like you are. I even did a sketchup design....

Now I am going to watch this one.....

OTTCT the balance of the trailer worried me, my bike weighs about 375ish and half of that weight is sitting above the axles. Pulled the trailer about 200 miles the other day loaded and it seemed to pull okay, I think when I finish the living quarters it should be balanced fairly well tho.

I already installed the ceiling but next time it comes down I may have to shove more insulation up there.

Thats a good looking bike, my buddy use to have one just like it I use to play around with.

Got the floor laid, ceiling thrown up and the counter built. Gonna build cabinets down below the counter and stain it all when I'm finished. should have my two 15x24 inch windows monday and once those are installed I will finish the walls up and paint them. I have to figure out what to do about an A/C tho, don't want a rooftop unit since I can fit the trailer in the garage if I want. Was thinking about the portable unit but after reading the A/C thread i'm not sure now. The only time the A/C will be used is at night since when were at the track were all outside BBQing and hanging out until bedtime. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you seen one of these in person? My understanding of this system is that it is basically a swamp cooler. That may work in very dry desert conditions but in other places it will introduce a LOT of moisture into the trailer, and moisture is usually our enemy. If anybody has other experience with it please feel free to share.

Thought about something like that but don't wanna add anymore height to it.
