Planning first trip

We just got our new Cozy Cruiser and excited to go on our first trip. We live in So. Cal. so looking for a quick weekend camping trip.

Some places we were thinking of are either Joshua Tree or Cuyamaca near San Diego. Anyone recommend other places in So. Cal. and what camp sites are good? I will be traveling with my wife and 3 year old son, so a campsite with full amenities would be nice. Thanks.

My strong suggestion for the Maiden Voyage is close to home so that when thing go wrong... the tools and what you need are then close at hand. We have a camp ground that is about 20 miles away.

Campland on the Bay in San Diego is by far the best camping when you have kids. http://www.campland.com/ My granddaughter just loves this place, bike riding, private beach, ice scream palore, pool, playground, candy bingo and much more. Just my input. We go every year with friends and there kids.

Another place I really liked is Boulder Basin campground just north of Idyllwild. The last maybe 7 miles is a fire road, but well worth it.

This campground in above 7000', so depending on how cold and wet this winter is/was, there could still be snow on the ground. Would be a good idea to call the Ranger Station for an update.

Thanks for the recommendations. I think I'll have to try both Boulder Basin and Campland. Sounds fun.

In the west you can only find full hook ups at private campgrounds, and even then not always. Many state in both nv and ca will have showers and flush toliets, but most do not, and not national campgrounds. I would agree with close to home for first trip out.

Im new to the site so forgive me If Im misunderstanding what others are considering full hook ups,but there are several places on the west coast that have them that are national parks.I live in wash state and there are a ton around me.I cant say that cali does though.

Good to know. I amend my previous statement. My familiarity with natl parks have been CA, nv, ut arizona and i am not aware of any with full hookups in those states.

By full hook ups i am meaning power and water, at least 120v to the trailers.

I know Buckskin Mountain SP in Parker, AZ has full hook ups as do many others. But I think most Natioanal parks don't. Here though most State parks and County parks have full hook ups.

I do my first dry camp with a new unit in my backyard, any issues are fixed asap, and with netflix and wifi its usually an all night movie event as well. Better to find problems close to your tools when possible, and I have over 3 acres of Nevada dirt to camp out on, so it really can feel like camping.
