my futurit fenders

ok like i sayd i live in middle of nowhere "Estonia" and i couldnt find any normal fenders in our stores, yes we have fenders but they are Jeep like squared fenders - i like round ones.

what to do - make self

i had possibility get some materials for free and start was given

its where father helps me

we take tire with same parameters and build "fender form" from gypsum on it, sheped and polish and .....



next phase was make fender mould on that gypsum fender from fiberglass matt and resin ....



now we need smoothing that mold from inside and only then we can make first fender in it ...
thats what we didnt done jet.

hard work - i can say only that and just in case when we already making we make more then one pair of fenders.

wow what a interest

ok some tips for those who want make fenders self

the gypsum must be very dry before smoothing, painting, fiber-forming ...
the gypsum must be very smooth, very very smooth ...
the pain must be that kind what dosnt react with fiberglass resin
the gypsum form edges cant be turned inside that means tahat gypsum form must be down wider then top side

these are mistakes what we did - some smaller some bigger
we didnt smoothing very well the gypsum,
our paint wasnt good enaugh - that means it react with resin and the resin moisture ruin gypsum form - we had to wash out gypsum from fiberglass mold,
before wash we tryed pull out mould but no the form was wrong - edges turned little inside
next time better

PS that wasnt first try to do fenders
first plan was take one number bigger tire cut it half secure edges with bolts and make fenders inside that mould.
it didnt work well because the tire inside isnt smooth and the tire isnt hard enaugh it can jiggle and may be hogged

Seems to me using this method one could theoretically get what you want by doing something like... Use a tire one wheel size bigger and several sizes wider leave the tire mounted on the wheel, air it up hard, wrap saran wrap around it. Apply glass, after it's cured leave the air out of the tire leaving enough wiggle room to get the fender off.
Like I said, sounds feasible in theory.
