who has a stack of dutch owens?

At a Scouting event, we had a stack of three 12" DOs. I usually limit my stacks to two of the same size or three if they are each smaller going up. I don't think I would stack on a walker/satalite dish stand ( I'm 6' tall the stack would be too high to work). Plus it would just be too top heavy. Maybe Dean the Fogcrawler will chime in. I have no doubt he has stacked more than a few times.

With DOs, you almost always put more coals on top than on bottom. So if you stack DOs, the one on top will have more heat on the bottom than it might need. This means if you are going to stack, put stews and such on top. Anything that requires more coals on the bottom than on the top.

That's too much for my poor brain, so I usually just use both places on my Camp Chef fire table, with no stacking.

When I cook I don't usually do more than 2 high because it is already taller than the wind guard on my metal table. At the most I'll do 2 stacks of 2.

I normally dont stack, it too hard to check stuff and stir stuff.

depends upon how many we are cooking for and what we are cooking
if its just 2 or 3 do we dont stack
but we normally have 5 to 8 do going so we stack 3 to 4 high normally
our record stack was 2 stacks of 8 do

spring camporee is coming up next month if i think about it i will snap a couple pics of our stacks

Totally agree, one or two pots at a time, side by side, been known to use roasting bags and cook different things in same pot, keep it simple.

Roasting bags? I never would have thought of that! At home in my crock pots I use 6 inch cake pans to cook two levels in one crock, and I have used silicone baking cups to do several things side by side, but roasting bags sound like a great idea for the DOs!

OTOH, our camp cooking this summer will probably be limited to the solar oven (we are already having no-burn notices, and it is only April!), so this may be one for the "someday" file.

They make bags sized for crock pots too. I give them . I hadn't thought of using them in the DO. Guess what is going to be added to my camp kitchen.
