Actually I think you are in rehab. I am up to about 35 lanterns and 20 stoves now.

Hey Randy, you got any derelict 200A's that you need to convert to cash? Or even a 2nd or 3rd runner in your collection?

If you want to enjoy "the thrill of the hunt" for me I would gladly work out a deal if you find another one. Any single mantle would be nice, but I want in on the 200A scene. They just have a classic look to them with the round globe and medium stature. Gotta get me some!

I just don't seem to have the time to search... to busy building and catching up on lost sleep.

Last night I passed on a 1966 200A at an auction. But I did bring home some booty ( in the pirate sense of the word ). I have 3 200As one is an older high hat. Two mid 60s, one converted to kero. After last night I now have 4 242s.

The 242 I got last night is a 1949 nickle tank and looks very very nice. Until I tore it down. The valve bung has been bent to one side but a little vice work and that will be straight. Pump leather looks good but passes a lot of air around it. Needs a new cap gasket. That will be done when I get another bottle of acetylene. And the generator resembles a snake. Don't know it the pricker rod will ever line up with the jet properly. Oh and it has a replacement red letter globe. But it will be a beauty with very little work on the fount. I don't know if I will shine up the brass. i do that then fell guilty about using the things.

I have a Nov 1941 that is a great burner. The handle for the cleaning rod is busted so I can't clean the generator but I do not know how many tanks of fuel I have put through it but it keeps right on burning. I have purchased a replacement but I am going to see how long it will go before it plugs. At least I think it is a Nov 1941. The bottom has a lot of bang marks like it was in a tool box on top of a bunch of wrenches and driving WFO down a washboard road. At various times I think I have an 11 and a 1. It is a 242B and is the oldest 242 I have.

The first 242 I acquired was from the estate of a local business man that ran the International tractor dealership here with his brothers. Way back in the late 50's they screwed my dad in a deal and dad never bought another new International tractor. He went to John Deere after that. Dad always said he never had a chance to thank John for making him buy John Deere. One John's brothers quit the business over that and he and dad stayed friends. Life in a small farming community.

The forth 242 I have is a 1945 nickle fount I bought from the coleman forum. It is in pretty good shape needs polishing and such that might be the one I let go. It does burn. I have never done any fixing on it. And off the top of my head I think it has the proper globe. Not sure.

I like your style Randy. Good earth and strong values (with a little bent wry in there for good measure)! Love the back story on International vs. JD. Classic battle!

I like the nickle fonts when they are in good condition and can be polished up nice, but some of the older ones that are rough and won't ever be "clean" don't appeal to me as much as the red 200A's. (Listen to me sounding like I know something of importance... I suppose I could be considered to be a beginner Coleman-itus-er; not a complete novice, but far from experienced. :? )

Thanks for the run down on your collection. I'm sure they are all gems!

I guess I'll just put this out there for anyone. If you come across a nice, or even reasonable 200A that you can't justify adding to your collection, but can't resist popping on, I'd be more than happy to support your addiction (the thrill of the hunt) by taking it off of your hands for a reasonable price, plus shipping.

I need a single mantle to round out my beginner collection and prefer the 200A's.

Thanks.

p.s. I don't much care what the wife thinks about the growing white gas collection. She didn't complain too much when we had light and a hot cuppa during the blizzard induced power outage this past winter, and my addiction is by no means out of hand... yet.

I have more or less stopped collecting fishing gear, so she shouldn't have anything to complain about, right?

Made my daily stop at my favorite hardware & lumber store & lo & behold they had a few cans of Coleman fuel! One of them followed me home.

I had checked at Wally World & whatnot & had struck out... And hadn't made a special trip near gander mountain, so I was very happy that my hometown store had it available!

I traded my acetylene bottle for a full one this morning and then was able to fix the scraper blade I use to move snow and gravel. It broke off the frame in the last big storm of the year and I had to remove a very well stuck and buggered up 7/8 inch grade five bolt. Chase the threads and put it all back together. Luckily I all ready had a 7/8 tap cause the price of acetylene felt like it had doubled since I last got some. I have the larger bottles. More than I really need for 95% of the things I do but it is nice to have for those other 5% of things. I was then able to get to work on my latest 242 and got it running. Got the riding lawn mower out of the machine shed. It had been setting since early Nov. and it fired right up. Didn't have to charge the battery at all and took about 1/2 second for it to fire. But it does need new blades or at least sharpen up an old set. The ones that are on it are probably worn out. Might mow the lawn sunday. Tomorrow will go see my dad and probably work Sat. I haven't worked since friday last week.

Ahh yes the anthropomorphic stage. Eric got there sooner than most. Welcome to the depths of Coleman collection. Here we understand what your family will not. Welcome Rhonda and Bubba Brown. Welcome. 8)
