Thanks Dale for the information. I was going by the information on the NHTSA site. It says that Front Side Marker Lights needed to be mounted on "Each side at front - as far forward as practicable". As for the height, it said 15 inch minimum from the ground. As far as I can tell, my trailer meets these minimum requirements. Here is the link to the site:

On the sides; Orange at the bottom of the front arc, Red at the bottom of the rear arc. Stop/turn on the fenders. I wasn't totally satisfied with the ones on the fenders because you only see one unless you're directly behind so I added another pair under the bottom of the hatch opening Hard to see when not lit up. Finally I put a pair of reflectors on the rear.

Just to carry it to the nth degree, how about going for a TD/TTT version of something like this ?
