Another CT to Toy Hauler conversion

Postby cabldawg » Fri Apr 19, 2013 4:17 pm

The start of my build. I have a donor class a motorhome that I'm gutting and moving the appliances and electrical over from. It has 2 rooftop a/c's and 2 ducted heaters on it. There's a 3 or 4 burner ( I can't recall at the moment.) cooktop and a microwave/convection oven combo. It has an onboard Onan genset that will definitely be installed into my trailer. My plan is to try to be able to fit 4 quads sideways once the build is done. A shower is optional, but highly desired. I just have to weigh out the options. Both rooftop a/c's will be installed just because I can. There's nothing like having a spare to cool the trailer in the event that one goes out. I know that 2 really are overkill, but to have a spare onboard ready to go on a hot summer day is priceless. I've been lurking around here for a while now and have got some great ideas. It's going to be a slow process for me, but I will keep this post updated as I go along. Image

cabldawg, Howdy;

Likein' your helper/Security System ...
What size is it, seems to swallow that 4-wheeler in the one pic.
Good luck with the build. Please post a bunch of pix along the journey.

Thanks guys. I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions along the way. I'll have to measure it again, but I think the box was 23' or 24' by 8. I'll put a tape on it tomorrow. I've got to get to work laying out the floorplan in tape anyways.

My work for today was swapping oout the ugly, faded lights for new LEDs. I was able to find these markers for 8.99 ea at the Pilot truck stop. My tail lights are on order from http://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Lights/Optronics/STL42RB.html I didn't care for the etrailer markers. These markers have a total of 12 LEDs.

I measured the inside today. It's 21' 10" interior overall length. 7' 9 1/2" interior overall width. 2' 10" from the deepest part of the round nose to the edge of the side entry door.

I've looking around for information on how to build one. I've never been able to find a toy hauler that wasn't a monster that required a dually to tow that I could fit 4 quads in. I figured that I could build this out without all of the fluff that the manufactures add into their units and have all the function that I need. My TV is a 2000 Ford Excursion 7.3.

I think that these are going to be the cabinets I go with. I'll have to do some measuring. I really like these. http://www.gladiatorgarageworks.com/catalog/category.jsp?parentCategoryId=695&categoryId=697

I need to replace the floor as it has a bad spot in the rear. Considering this is a 1998 model trailer I figured it would be best to go ahead and replace the entire floor while it's easy to. Is it advisable to paint the underside of the plywood, or just leave it bare? I'll be using a 3/4" PT plywood. If I can find a marine grade I'll use that, but if not just the PT should work fine. I'm just not sure about the painting.

That looks like a nice product, unfortunately it's not available in my area.
