Repurpose

Postby nrody » Tue Apr 23, 2013 6:19 pm

This may belong in another section but I thought I would ask here first. I have an old school stainless steel fire extinguisher that I would like to repurpose to use with my tear. Maybe for a water tank, shower or something. I have browsed online but really only came up with umbrella stand or lamp as a repurpose for the type of extinguisher.
It is the kind you turn upside down to use, about 2 feet tall and I think it holds about 2 gallons. We had them at our public schools in the 70's. I have removed the cartridge from the inside and disposed of it.
Any creative Ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

There are a couple of ideas in my brain...

You could use it as a portable solar shower (painted black and augmented with a mirror).

Another thought is to use it specifically for water or a similar refreshment. Placed in an ice box you could use gravity feed or even attach a bulb to pressurize it enough for dispensing. By placing the right fittings there is a CO2 attachment uses for beer making that makes a Cornelius keg portable. On the other hand a Cornelius keg would be an easier option and hold 5 gallons..... Hmmm.

As I recall those "soda acid" extinguishers had a bottom outlet (that became the top when it was in operating position top down).

That would make it eminently suitable for a shower. I'm not sure I'd drink anything out of it, regardless of how carefully you cleaned it.
