I need to trim around my fenders but I am having trouble doing so. Any suggestions?

I've not found any kind of molding that suits my needs either. I've searched a bunch on the internet and am about to give up and cut some diamond plate to fit and just forget it. Maybe some others here have found a source that will work.

Hey Melven, I used VW aftermarket fender welting. It's a rubber material the has a nice round beaded edge for a nice finish.

Cheers,

Dave

I did the same on ours, also keeps the metal from rubbing together.

Could you post a pic of how you used it so I can visualize it? Thanks so much Dave!

Melven,

We used diamond or checker plate as per Lgboro.
Looks okay, to us anyway.

It does look very good on your tear. It wouldn't work on mine however as mine is a more vintage style build. Nice work by the way. your forming looks spot on.

Melven.

It is a standard plywood Tear under the skin.
It was built by my SIL and myself. I am a retired aircraft mechanic and the SIL is a sheet metal fabricator/welder.

Like Dave I used a classic car style rubber fender welt that I got from eBay. It goes between the fender and the wall of the trailer.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Street-Rod-Rubber-Fender-Welt-Kit-10-feet-Pickup-Truck-/310657674880?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4854a3ee80&vxp=mtr

It's kind of hard to see in Dave's picture since the fender and the welt is black but the bead runs right at the edge of the fender where it meets the wall of the Tear.

The guard on our TD stands away from the body and is held rigid by bottom attach bolts and a spacer and bolt at the top.
Dirt cannot get up onto the body sides as it is retained inside the guard.
I can stand on the guard as I can the step in front.

Take it easy.

Similar setup here, I bought 2 fibreglass blanks, with fully covered sides. I then cut and trimmed one side for the outside then kept the entire inside wall to
A. Something to bolt to the TD
B. Keep the wheelwell fully enclosed, keeping muck/water inside the fender, away from the body. The fender base deliberately fits 1inch below the TD body to help with this.

Hard to see in the pic but the other fender side wall is still there
