Over the top

Postby PubUltraStar » Thu Apr 25, 2013 1:36 pm

I couldn't sleep last night, and kept waking up thinking about my teardrop build. Anyways, for some reason, putting an aquarium in my teardrop popped into my mind. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has dreams/nightmares about their builds, but who can post the most ridiculous/awesome idea to put in a teardrop? FYI: I'm not really putting an aquarium in, but it would be unique.

Water source, fresh meal, entertainment all in one space. How could it get better.

All the bouncing around might be a little hard on the fish. Take a ride in yours before you decide to put animals in the camper. I think you might be surprised at the ride.

You're right, an aquarium would be a totally unique, and impractical, thing to put in the teardrop. I bet the ATM guys in Las Vegas (Animal Planet's TANKED show) could figure out a way to do it so that it worked! BUt I guarantee I would not want to pay their price!

As far as pracitcal unique / awesome things - I'm still working on it!

First: Give the trailer an air ride suspension.
Second: Automatic air-conditioning and heating system. Can't let the fish get to hot or cold. That could be suboptimal or even seriously suboptimal.
Third: Make a sturdy fish tank that has a lid that seals, but has splash proof venting for air, and plumbing for filters. It also needs to be able to be firmly attached to the trailer.
Forth: Make some fixed tank furniture, and bottom rock bed. That way it doesn't move when the water sloshes around.
Fifth: Use an external sealed canister type filter for cleaning the water. Yes, these are a standard fish tank filter design, or at least they were back in the '80s.
Sixth: Pick some hearty fish. Ones that like swift water may be the best choice.
7th: I'm sure there is more, but I'm not going to bother to figure it out.

Your ideas don't have to be "Fish Tank" releated, but I love the creativity. I like the air suspension for having an off-road convertible tear. I'm sure people have some crazy ideas, so let's hear them:

I really wanted a periscope in mine. For all those weird noises I hear in the woods at night. Little spotlight mounted on there. Still want one.

Also, a little more practical...deck prisms. One or two of them would provide such great light in the TD. Just can't bring myself to drill any more holes in the roof. The FanTastic fan is great, but a little extra natural light is always welcome.

My hubby has had repeated dreams (nightmares) about ours. (the build is not quite complete yet) Dreaming that it had either fallen apart on the road lmao, or while parked somewhere, someone wrecked into it.I told him to quit thinking so negative! He designed and built our current home & has pointed out the me "This is the second castle I've built you" referring to our tear. I hope those nightmares go away once we get it on the road. :vroom:

I wish I had photos of it. Years ago a friend made a fish tank with a cat tunnel in it. The cat tunnel was a 12" diameter glass pipe.

How about an aquarium screen saver and a big monitor?

ripley's aquarium of the smokies has two massive tanks wth tunnels, the shark tank one is awesome! they have a conveyor belt in the floor to keep everyone moving, and to make it more intersting there is music that reminds you of the movie Jaws playing in speakers in the floor, since the tunnel has a curved plastic roof it is like swimming with the sharks. there is even a dark corner of the tank with a lone spotlight in it, where one shark seemed to like to hang out, rather ominus...
Then the Penguin tank has a tunnel for the kids, you have penguins swimming over and under you as you crawl through to a large bubble right next to the penguins. (I had to crawl through so I could tell my kids what they missed at their grandparents house  ) that tunnel was a 30" tube.

Only if they are the kind that shoot flames out the pipes, like thisImage

You have to admit, it has a certain appeal.

I thought about something like that but I was afraid I would burn up my galley. Glad to know there are still some crazy hot rodders left out there.
