Well Done Roly!
Wish I could have had the week you have had. Unfortunately everything else that is going on with life and the shop took priority over Miss Piggy.
So I am writing this and getting ready for a 24 hour blitzy, just to get it ready to bring to the Dam "Unfinished".
Oh well it will give me something to do when we get home!
Have a safe trip.....we will meet up with you Wednesday night if all goes well.
Sure hope that reliable old 46 Studebaker is ready for the trip, as I have not had time to look at it either.
See ya there!

Fixed my door chain stop that got ripped off during the windstorm this past weekend. Had to replace a section of the wood frame to that door as well as it split down the middle when the door blew open and over extended itself :(

Also came to realize after this weekend that I could use a set of cup holders inside the trailer as well so looking into that right now :)

Sandi and I talked about inside cup holders and decided that wine glasses don't do well in them, and we are to uppity to drink wine out of a cup.
So we did not make that provision.
But after our trip to the Dam we will find out what we REALLY NEED!
Miss Piggy still not attached to the TV......but the night is young?? Just taking a short wine break :wine: as I got up at 4:41 this morning an went to the shop, so i already have my 1/2 day in (12 hours) almost time for the night shift.
This just means that we won't get off to as early of start as I had hoped.
But we only plan on a short 400 miles tomorrow which is good because I probably will only get a couple of hours sleep tonight.
See you all at the Dam!!!

I actually got started doing some metal work today. Instead of day dreaming and spending money.

Trailer kit. some assembly required.

I then made the plates that the flex ride axles will bolt to.

Roof mastic applied to TD bottom, and hooking up the electrical is getting more compllicated than I thought. Wrong plug, no ground wire furnished with HF trailer (I need a ground since my TD is all wood where the lights are installed.) Had to alter my plans to leave Monday, since the wheel bearings still have to be packed with good grease, not the cheap China stuff. So, I won't get to the Dam until Thursday PM. This new rig is so low, that I can just barely see it in the rear view mirror. At last, Dam, here I come.

My truck stayed broken down long enough that I just now was able to finish the last skin coat of exopy. The Command Post now has a skin made up of 1/4" hardwood plywood, topped with two layers of 6 oz fiberglass fabric, and 3 top coats of epoxy over that. Once the paint is on there, and doors, windows, and roof vent installed, I think she'll keep the water out :D

I am using some rather thin wall 1.5X2 rectangle for most of the frame. I can't remember the thickness right now. There is a hunk of heavier 2x2.5 or 3 for the single member tongue, but that might get changed. I am thinking now of making a removable/adjustable tongue. Shorten it up for highway travel and then lengthen it for rough road where I might need the extra turning degrees. The axles are 1400 lb Flex Ride. I am not planning on brakes at this time but they could be installed. Then the adapters so I can use the wheels/spare tire of the tow vehicle. Now just watch me get a different one. The rims are from a 2000 Suzuki Vitara. It will be about 5 foot wide, about 9 foot long and about 4.5 feet high inside. Drop floor with left door to the bottom of it. Will be an adventure to make the frame strong enough going around a big hole in the rail. I am getting up in years and am not so flexible now days and making this for trips 1-2 months long. Don't know if I will use that ball hitch. It is a cheapy.

I started welding up the frame today. Still have a lot of pondering to do about it but the width is set. Wheels will be partially buried. I do not like wheels sticking way out wider than the TV and I need to cut down on air resistance.

It was 6 years ago today I started cutting metal for my first TD. Which was actually my 4th trailer. The others was farm trailers. The very fist one I built when I was a junior in high school. It was 8 wheels, tilt bed and could carry about 20,000 lbs. or more. That was in 1967-68. The 2nd was a sprinkler pipe trailer that I stumbled upon in Feb. I was surprised it had not been cut up for scrap. It was never very good.

Image

Back bone of it was from a 1935 chev truck. If I remember correctly.

Image

Used the front axle from same truck and flipped it over for ground clearance. I built this before I had very much experience with irrigation sprinkler pipe and it was never a good trailer. Like I said I was very surprised it had not been melted down.

It was the right height. Length of trailer and placement of the axle was all wrong. I was very surprised when I saw it in Feb. I last saw it about 40 years ago. And there was no mistaking it. I found it when I went to see the old farm out in Washington. I would like to find trailer #1 but last I heard it had gone to Utah.

Finished insulating then got in a fight with a pocket hole jig... It won. I had it in my hand, and pulled the trigger. The bit bit my finger? Pretty nasty looking so went to prompt care to get it cleaned and glued. I'll be nice and not post pics if the wound. Guess I'll relax for a couple days.

Roly, what are you using for roof mastic, Did it come from Lowes by any chance? Almost got the frame and floor finished working on two storage boxes and a place for the spare under the floor.
