So who among us has a Coleman lantern shaped bottle of aftershave? I saw one today very close to full for $4.00. I didn't think to get a picture. The same booth also had a single burner military stove. Didn't have the complete cook kit with it though. There was also a catalectic heater that looked like it was barely used in another booth.

I dont have one of those but I have seen a few in the wild. They are cool but I have to limit myself when It comes to Coleman stuff. I am NOT allowed to put any of my stuff in the house. Yea Yea I know , but the thing is I have a pretty big garage. So I keep my collection mostly to lanterns that work and a few stoves. I have a few water coolers and ice chests.

The question is what does that stuff smell like? White gas would be nice. 8)

If I do find one of those I am going to clean it out and use it for a camping flask. That should turn some heads.

From what I understand the aftershave in the Avon Coleman bottles is awful. Even when the stuff was new it was bad.

Yes, it is not great. It's the same stuff they put in every one of the cool bottles they sold. My dad used the stuff in the VW Bug bottle, but I never saw any other bottles get emptied. The flask idea sounds cool, you would just have to use a very small funnel to fill it. The opening is very small.

I been participating in some retail therapy and this arrived this morning. Not Coleman, other than the fuel.

Image

It is a Thermos Inverted lantern. I am not sure on the age yet but it is about 50 years old and it had never ever been fired. A 50 year old virgin, just not natural. It is nice shinny and barely a scratch to complain about. It is missing one of the three brass nuts that hold the globe on but it stays with only 2. I had to chase the threads in the aluminum 3 piece fuel cap they used before it would seal. It just would not screw down far enough but a few moments with the awl in my Swiss pocket knife and it works. Oil the pump leather, put on a new mantle, fuel it up, pump up pressure and then burn in the mantle. When that is done I was able to get it it burning right away. It has probably been burning for about 5 hours now on its first firing.

It is not a lantern if it has not burned.

And I got it for a decent price, for the evil bay. I low balled a price, put it in and went to work not expecting to get it. It is still running, going on 9-10 hours. Can't remember exactly when I fired it up. And have not given it any more pumps. Still on its first burn.

Maybe I should low ball a price on a Hassablad camera, see if my luck holds out.

Very nice lantern, Randy. The therapy is working for me! I like it.

That's the perfect configuration for an indoor lantern; hang it on a hook in your living room when the power goes out.

I need to put some hooks in now. It is setting on top of my fridge at the moment. Out in the shop I put on a jersey t shirt type material for about an hour and no problem. Does cut down on the light distribution. Will need to fix up something to take camping to hang it from. Where I camp there is often no trees.
