This thread got me thinking about an old Petromax kerosene lamps that my dad purchased in India 50 years ago. It is sitting on his back porch as decoration, and I officially "put my name on it". In researching it I did find there were a lot of Indian knock offs, so I need to clean it up and do more research though. He also has some cool brass carbide mine lamps that I will get some day.

That petromax is the real deal, I would restore it to it's former glory...I am a Petromax addict over here...

I've image googled a bit and could t find any with the split glass globe. I'm looking forward to restoring it some day.

Someone asked me if I wanted some Coleman fuel as they were moving...This is what I got. Anyone no what era these are from? I have never seen them before.

The split glass globe is just a makeshift glass, very common in the Middle east and in the far east, some street metalworkers sell them for way cheaper than a regular Schott glass, it adds to the history of the lantern, even in South America is not so uncommon:





here is a tutorial on how to do a full "overhaul" on those, they are similar to a huge carburetor, and when properly tuned they are blinding bright.

When I got mine they were is bad shape, but now they are daily users, I had lots of fun restoring them, much better than watching TV.

Nothing that I could see. I was afraid to break the box open. The cardboard is getting brittle.

I pretty much have this project done now. Other than I might put a 3 piece cap on it some day. Nickel of course. I put a red 200 knob on it and a direction decal of a 22*C. This thing will fire up about a second after I crack the valve. I don't think I have any other that fires up that fast. Not counting the one profane lantern I have.

Nah, we were hiding in the garage.....

I finished a couple of weeks ago a kero frankie, uses a 288 fount, a 5101 frame and vent, a 200A valve, a 201 generator and a homemade collar and heat shield, it breathes jet fuel...
