Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Good luck on getting your new trailer. I think we will be getting a Mirage 6X12. They are made here in Idaho.

On the electrical: I think I will run the wires in the angle between the roof and walls, and then branch out for plugins or lights with electrical conduit inside the side walls or ceiling. That way they won't accidentally get a screw put into the wires.

It is about $2 for 10 feet. Then you also have the connectors, elbows, etc.

Good luck and it sounds like a plan!
Dadgum it! I cut that board 5 times and it's still too short!

I think the 6x12 choice is a good one..I worry about hanging up my fenders even with my 6x12. If a 6x12 wasn't enough I would rather go longer than wider.

Maybe you all are better drivers than me though!

dustboy,
Good choice. :thumbsup: A feller doesn't need to overload his wagon. Don't know about the others but I cut my teeth pulling cattle trailers since I could see over the steering wheel darn near 50 yrs ago. So I cheated, don't cut yourself short. I've hung my share of fenders. :hammerhead: Anyone that hasn't hung a fender just hasn't pulled a trailer long enough. Its part of the learning curve.

Looking forward to your build!

Well, time to bump this to near the front.
Have pretty much made up my mind. Think it's going to
be a Haulmark Round nose Passport 6X12, PPT6X12DS215"
rims and tires,1 skylight, with an RV latch installed along
with the bar-lock. "Plain Jane" all the way...
To my thinkin' allowes me more room to manouver and more $$'s
for the modifications.
Should be putting the down payment on it in the next week or 2.
If I have to travel to Utah to get it I'll be clearing out a storage locker
I have there anyway. That would be the first half of May.
Should save the Sales Tax as I live in N.M.

:thumbsup: :thumbsup: I've got the same one in a v-nose. So far, so good! Just put the second set of tires on it, so we've been around the block a time or two! Bearings were good. No leaks. I have replaced a few of the outside screws holding the skin on, and the ones that always seemed to come loose I secured with a little silicone in the hole. No leaks!

Haulmark also makes a single axle 6x14. The cost difference is only a couple hundred but you gain that 2 feet inside length. The curb weight increase is only about 150 lbs as compared to the 12 foot model. Something to think about before you order.

Howdy All;

Thanks for the good wishes and thoughts. Thought about the 14 footers .... would be nice,
but I think I can put the extra c-notes to better use ... :)

Howdy All;

Ok, bit the bullet ... Have placed an order for an Interstate Loadrunner
7'X14' round nose. Getting the extra height and getting it in Murray, Ut.
I'll be going up there to get it the first week in June, and load it up with
my stuff that's in storage back there. Figure it's easier to fill in any blank
spots then it is to stretch one after I find it's to short or skinny ... :lol: .
Now I have to make sure I have fresh saw blades and plenty of screw bits...

I have an interstate 6x12 that I have been working on since December of 2012. I wish I would have known how much the plywood that come in the trailer was going to put off fumes/odors. It's not just wood smell and it is STRONG. It may go away over time, that remains to be seen but I was hoping to get the family out camping this spring with warmer weather here now but there is no way on an 80 degree day even with the windows open the fumes are horrible inside.

I would absolutely do something different if I was at the beginning of my project now. For what it's worth. The smell just doesnt' get better in a couple months.

rollintent, Howdy;

I'm thinking that with the temps. starting to be in the 90's around here and will be going over the 100 mark in a month or so,
I'll aim the rear to the Southwest let all the sun and heat in I should be able to 'cook' the formaldehyde out the trailer in short order.

Maybe I'm freaking out prematurely. I hope so. I am going to give mine a few months of hotter temps and keep researching the issue and try to arm myself with some factual info. I am just thinking I would have scrapped the original plywood at the drop of a hat if I knew then what I know now. Sure would have been a LOT easier. Sounds like you already have a plan.

Can't wait to see photos. I need to do the same. I am not going to turn the world of CT conversion upside down with my build but It seems like every project I look at has something interesting if not downright useful.

Howdy All;

Afraid I'm going to have to put my 'Project' on hold.
I have to spend my budget on the tow vehicle's 6.0L
Power Stroke Diesel, mine's a early '04 so I'm doubly cursed.
So, I'm just going to hang-out, soak up ideas, maybe offer a
suggestion here an there. That is if ya'll don't mind.

No worries, mate.......I spent ~ 4 YEARS on this site lurking and planning and lurking and planning some more.........an EXCELLENT use of my time as I started out looking at building a teardrop, reviewing plans, looking at time spent for labor, found this section, and spent MORE time here......initially looked at a 6x12, then a 6x14 (TV Honda Odyssey), then bought an F-150 SCrew which opened up other possibilities.......went up to 7x14, then 7x16 and settled on a 7x16 (+2' V nose) and I still didn't get it right (should have had the side door ~ 1' further to the rear but I adapted (check my album).....and I STILL review other builds to see what I can do with mine.......... :twisted:

wtcreaux, Howdy;

Figure if my Tow vehicle can't move then I won't be able to use the CT, fix the Tow vehicle first...
