Good source for bearings and seals?

Postby Shadow Catcher » Mon May 06, 2013 7:02 am

I am looking to replace the bearings and seals on our Dexter axle and will pack them with synthetic grease. The Timken bearings, L44610/L44649 for the (brake size 7X1-1/4) are available from a number of sources and prices vary widely (under statement). I am looking for the seals and a good price for the bearings any one know of a source?

Randy, my husband, and owner of Desert Metal Products, stocks thousnds of seals and bearings, from the common to the archaic. It is a one man (plus his 75 yr old dad, who still works everyday) operation that primary keeps the local framers and miners in running through custom machine work.

He has and incredible supply of bearings (timken). He often has bearings even Timken supply houses don't have.

Or PM here if you want him to check if he has them and price. There is no website, he is old fashioned. Walk in and phone.

If a hard of hearing old man answers, ask for Randy! Lorin is is dad :D

p.s. one of the reasons prices vary so widely is because one of the common middle men, the distributors, varies there price widely, depending on the retail sellers volume with the distributor. Plus the price changes every time we purchase. Bearing prices have gone up dramatically in the last year, as has steel price.

Randy, the fellow buckeye, says that that group of bearings is called "Timken set 4". And may very well be found at your local Napa parts store. As for seals, Timken bought National a while back, so either brand is good.
