Dexter #8 vs Dexter #9

I have started to build a 4 wide tear after previously building several 5 wides. I know, many ask why go backwards, but I think I want smaller.
In the past I have used Dexter #9 axles derated to 1500 lbs and have been very happy with them
I anticipate dry weight of the 4 wide to be around 650 pounds so I priced a Dexter #8 rated at 1100 lbs with 5 x4 ½ hubs.
I also priced a #9 rated @1500 lbs with 5x4 1/2 hubs.
The difference is less than $10.
What differences are there between the two? I assume the #8 has smaller bearings. Is it lighter? How much? Would the lighter rating give me a better ride?

Going from (sometimes deficient) memory, I think it was Cary of Camp-Inn trailers who said that he felt the 'sweet spot' of torsion suspension started at half their rating. So expect 650lb on a 1500lb axle to be like not having much suspension.

IMO, the #8 would be a good choice. For a good ride & stability I believe the axle should be rated at the intended gross trailer weight. No more. An 1100# axle on a 650# trailer allows for 450# of your stuff, if you can get it in. If not, reduce the rating. I know it's not always possible, but it seems the best way to choose the axle rating would be to build the trailer without the axle, load it up, weigh it & then order the axle.

The #8 & #9 bearings are the same. The #8 weighs about 10# less because it has a smaller torsion tube which is more than enough for a lightweight teardrop. You can it get with brakes which are smaller & lighter weight than the #9. At least specify the brake mounting flange in case you found the need to add them.

One difference between the two to keep in mind when designing the chassis is that the #8 axle has a shorter swing arm.

I just expected more of a price difference in the two
