On my enclosed trailer I have a 7 pin connector. For the longest time, the lights on the trailer would not work. Meaning that none of the clip lights, marker lights, turn signals, or stop lights would not work. Currently I have a f-250, previously was a Chevy 1500.
This past weekend a friend of mine borrowed my trailer and all the lights seem to work perfectly.
I have questions about wiring the plug receptacle on my F-250. I have heard that there's two wires you have to swap in the wiring diagram between a ford and Chevy. Is there any relevance to this rumor?
As it stands I have the quick plug and play receptacle on my truck that I can only assume that's been in there since it came from the dealer this way when I bought it. I have give some thought of buying a plug and hard wire it into my wiring harness to try to resolve this issue.
It makes absolutely no sense that this trailer will work on his Chevy truck and not on my ford. Can someone help me??

You simply can't trust the color schemes for the wiring on any trailer or tow vehicle. You have to test and verify each wire to determine its function and then wire the functions to the correct pins on the connector. Once you get the connectors wired correction (according to "convention") you should be able to plug your trailer into any vehicle wired (to the same convention) and everything should work. The fact that your trailer works correctly on one vehicle and not another is pretty clear evidence that the "offending" vehicle isn't wired correctly.

Ok, I have been doing a LOT of testing on wiring bit inside of my trailer and on my truck. Here's the findings:
1. When installing a cabinet to the wall, I accidentally drilled into one of the "hot wires", that in turn was grounding to the frame causing a dead short in the trailer. Repaired that wire, now the trailer is repaired.
2. The wiring harness on my truck has faults. Most of the pins in the 7 pin connector and on the 4 pin connector do not work. After replacing SEVERAL fuses and much disappointments and heartache I have decided to have that repaired at a local auto shop.
