Window sills. Just frame the window in with wide 1x boards and you will have a nice shelf. Or use something thrifty like the laminate flooring to frame around the window recess, like a nook.

Went to the store today , got all my 1X2 , 1x4 strips and bits ... OSB flooring , 3 sheets , enough to do the floor Plus ... bolts, nuts, washers , and a can of the black nasty stuff (green can , particularly nasty ) Going to lay out my “story board” .. (old school ) to make all my measurements and marks on all my stringers .. less than a month before the season starts , gotta get crackin’ ... :o

Progress this morning ... Got the cross members all marked , measured exact and ready to cut to length and bolt down ... Hey ,it’s a start ...

Found out we have 13” rims (4 hole) and that clears the floor by ~2” , probably with a 12” rim I could use regular trailer fenders , and not have to build wheel wells inside the cabin...

KC, finally huh ? All it took was the threat of another Active hurricane season ... and the wife’s constant reminding (nagging) ... :R

Measured everything 3 times , marked it , then checked it again .... Only to find out my foam sheets are not 10’ but 9’ 11” ... so the FS will be 1” shorter .... there goes the built in hot tub ...

Great to see you 'breaking ground' on this...before the 'ground' is underwater again

and not have to build wheel wells inside the cabin...

I need just a little bit of room, so mine are going to be a pain - there's just no convenient way to fit them into the floorplan.

Quick question in this pic:
Image
Are you going to have more crossmembers to support the rounded nose section or just fur up the frame ?

I'm looking forward to seeing your collection of pieces come together, especially the CNC ribs - I think that will prove to be a great move.

Hi GPW,

If you put the 2x4s on edge, not laid flat as shown, will that give you enough clearance ?
They'd be stronger that way too - important as you are cantilevering the floor off the
main frame. [I'm also assuming they have not yet been cut to the width's length yet,
correct ?]

Cheers,
Norm/mezmo

W2, Thanks , I’ll need to add another short crossmember where the nose attaches ... and a few spacer blocks ... Putting the ribs together should be fairly easy ... if I can get some help to just hold things while I nail and glue it together ... I did borrow a pneumatic brad gun to help , that should make it much quicker ...

Norm , laying the X-members flat works best for me , makes floor attachment much more secure (easier) even though it’s T&G edges . ...I’m using “clear and dry” treated Pine cross members which seems very strong , and there will be enough of them to provide enough strength for the light cabin structure ... The overhang is 11.5” on each side (3.5” of that will be foam ) , and will be further reinforced by attaching the OSB floor , so I’m not worried about the strength ... and yes , I need to get out the chop saw to cut them to length ..
I would have gotten more done , but yesterday afternoon , the yard men showed up to help me remove a broken 40’ “hanger” Live Oak limb from directly over my driveway . :frightened: Had to get my bow out to shoot an arrow with string attached over the tree so we could attach a rope and yank the darn thing down ... Then we had to chain saw it up and toss the short bits into the woods ... After that I was too shagged to do any more work ... (old ) and had to rest ...
Now I have to clean up the Studio for band practice tomorrow night , so assembly will have to wait till Saturday ... and it’s supposed to rain More today ... :o

Figured out a way to make the rounded nose cone using stacked foam semicircles , then just sand out the terraced surfaces. The Semi circles would gradually get a smaller and smaller radius as you get to the top . All measurable off the initial 36” Radius (on mine ) , and allowing for an inner thickness too ... Easier and probably more accurate than just carving a big solid block ... that takes a little skill to get perfect  stacked rings , even Grandma' could do that ...

I really like that idea. Had a similar one for mounting my round door. Very cool idea.

Thanks Bonnie , it was the easiest way I could think of coming up with that rounded shape ... The original idea of just carving a big ole’ block of foam seemed too difficult for most people , and extremely messy ... :frightened: This way i can just draw the half circles on the foam sheets , and cut them out roughly with the hot wire .... should end up pretty close to a smooth round nose ... depending on that as the trailer will sit some 8’ off the ground :o ... the round nose in the oncoming air behind the pickup truck ... Should tow OK ...

That method looks good.

I would definitely glue them all to each other first, just dry fit to the camper frame, or leaving a long edge to trim to fit later (before gluing it in place) so that you can flip it over to carve (hot wire?) out the steps on the inside on the bench, rather than having to do that step standing on your head.

Stating the merely obvious is a specialty of mine. :D
