Now the wife has volunteered to buy an RV style door for the back , because she wants a screen door too ... and a window ... No problem , less work for me ... 8)

Wow. been a while since I checked in on your build. I can hear those old wagon wheels creaking. Ok, I just finished watching "Into the West" Had to see my brother in law in it. Never seen him in anything but a short he was in years ago.

Wolf , who’s your BIL ? Somebody famous or soon to be ?

Last night the conversation at home turned to FS sleeping gear , the wife saying Futons aren’t comfortable ,and Foam is “hot” ... I’m going to need Two Big mattress/cushions ~ 30” wide and 75” long and thick enough to make up a “sofa/bed” by stacking one atop the other (sofa)... Sofa by day , bed at night . This is probably the most important piece of “furniture" to keep the Domina’ Comfortable :o ... I was just going to get some big blocks of soft foam and run up some covers for them ... Apparently that is not enough :frightened: ... You guys (and ladies ) have any ideas ???

http://www.thefoamfactory.com/mattress/mattress.html

These are the mattress selections at the Foam Factory. They will make to order cushions using exactly the same materials. It's a bit pricey, but they can also cover them for you in ticking. You can also just get the combo mattress pieces and ship them.

Hmmm? Interesting ... but Pricy for an occasional bugout ... :o I was hoping for something more “temporary” ... I liked the idea of cots (they do make nice ones) or deluxe sleeping bags and pads ... Her Worship said NO!
Let’s see now :
1. Cots out... as are bags
2. Futons are “uncomfortable”
3. Foam is “hot” ...
4. inflatable mattress ... we have a Cat .. :frightened: pssssssssssss !!!!
5. it has to be something like a sofa during the day ...
6. It can’t cost more than the trailer ... :R

Not many options left eh ...

One 2X4 short ... :( had to drive to the HD , their wood selection is the WORST !!! Dug through the pile , found two barely decent ones , and got em’ ... and picked up another can of the Gripper too while I was there... Now work can continue , once the boards dry out a bit ... (wet with nasty PT chemicals :o ) ... I laid them across the trailer in the sun to dry out a bit ... Home depot .... Grrrrrrrr!!!! The PT (Clear and DRY ) 2X4s I got from a local lumberyard were very Nice , no knots , dry as toast , and only 75 cents more each ... well worth the price ... but not the 40 mi. drive there and back again for just one or two boards ... OK, so I’ll have one imperfect board on the FS , but it will be hidden over the axle ... and I’ll never tell !!! :R

GPW,

I think the best option is to get a futon and then at night add a mattress topper it before you make the bed. The "firm" futon sans topper will be comfortable to sit on, but the topper will give a little more cushion for sleep at night. Another option is to see about getting custom innerspring mattresses. I know it sounds expensive, but I've heard they are not that much more than the mattress. Somewhere on the forum someone did this. In major cities - like NOLA - a lot of the mattresses you seen in the stores are "made to order" locally to save on the expense of shipping them cross country. These local guys typically have a house brand. It may be worth doing a little Google searching (or for me I turn to the old fashioned yellow pages.)

Take care,
Tom

Foam may be hot but, all mattresses have a foam layer over the springs or are made of foam. It is the material that is covering the foam that will make the difference. How about something on the line of this? Probably a bit better support than a futon.

He is John Hardman. No, not a porn star. He resembles Jack Elem. :D

IMDB page

Not famous and as he is my age well past the stage that he will ever be. He has been teaching Theater Arts in New Mexico for some time and gets parts in a lot of things that shoot in NM. He did try out for Breaking Bad but didn't get a part. Last month he did some in a Tommy Lee Jones movie.

I have lived a sheltered life and have never set on or slept on a futon. But as I have been sleeping very well in my recliner for over two years now. Is a good futon anything like the padding in a recliner? And mine is not an expensive one. Cloth covering and probably just cotton stuffed in there. Little springing. It is the shape and the arm rests that make it so comfy. At least that is my theory.

I found this maker of them Handmade futons
They are a days drive away from me so I could make a trip out of it.
They sound kind of like my recliner if I build a proper frame. Or build a trailer around a recliner.

A futon or similar would be Nice , but I’d like to eliminate the frame (weight/size) and just keep the cushions ...
Back in 1970 , when I was playing in a Blues band in Seattle , we met a guy who owned a thriving business... "Pillow Power"... He had these stores where young “earth mothers” (hippy chicks) burning incense (and who knows what else) and listening to CSN on the record player ,were busy making /sewing all sorts and sizes of pillows .... There was a big Futon like pile of pillows that was very comfortable , and sat on the ground(floor) .. I mentioned this to the wife and she actually liked the idea ... :o Since I have some rudimentary sewing skills , this may be the easiest way to go , and I can easily make the sizes to fit in my space requirements ...and budget ! The idea now to have Lots of pillows , sorta’ a fluffy work in progress ... it seems a good start anyway , and if it doesn’t work out “on the road’ it will only be another excuse for HRH to go “Shopping” ... her favorite pastime, and a much appreciated distraction during EVAC ... :R

Whoa !!! Putting T&G OSB flooring down is a real (well I can’t say that here , but you know what I mean  )... Hard to get the T into the G ... May just trim down the next one and not bother ... they meet over a crossmember anyway ...
I just mounted the whole sheet (s) and will trim it to correct size and Square once everything’s down ... ;)
