Last weekend there was a wildfire 5 miles away. We had east winds and somebody apparently was target shooting with tracers into some dry logging slash.

Had the wind changed, I'd have been more nervous, but the forecast was for more east winds and it was right on. I'd have gone out to my friends' house and parked, I guess, if we had to get gone.

As far as documents: Every piece of paper and photograph I own is available on the internet, albeit password protected. Mostly through DropBox and Google Drive, both of which automagically sync from my phone and my laptop. Every document I've ever scanned is out there, and if I take a picture with my phone and then loose the phone the picture is still available online. If some corporation wants to do some nefarious deeds with my vacation pictures and a copy of the title of my pop-up then who am I to complain. We're more Griswold than Pitt/Jolie anyway.

I solve the problem of people stealing my stuff by not having that much stuff that people would want to steal. My laptop is worth more than my car (Driving a 27 year old truck that you bought for $500 fifteen years ago is a great safety "feature" btw) and technically speaking my two dogs are the fifth and sixth most expensive things I own.

As long as my family is safe everything else can be replaced.

When the big quake hits again, and it surely will, I'll take my fully stocked teardrop and split. I sat through the Northridge quake in the upper bedroom of my 5th wheel, while all of the TVs and book shelves were tossed across the room. Not to worry though, the roof above my head was made of 1/8th inch plywood, 1x2 framing and aluminum roofing material. The trailer bounced around but no one was injured. Thank God for minor earthquakes, it puts a lot of people to work, and folks get a chance to get back some of the money they have spent on earthquake insurance........
