If it were me, I would go with NTS requirements..... Its like putting a reindeer in the trunk of your car as a spare tire... OH sure you can do it, but it sure is not practical.... There are so many lamp choices out there (either incandescent or LED) why not use proper unit for intended purpose.....

Personally I would do it pretty close to legal standards so I do NOT gain the attention of any "rogue" cop having a bad day and decides to teach the world a lesson....

Don't tail lights have a somewhat focused beam pattern, intended to grab the attention of someone following? And the side markers have a wider light spread to be viewed from nearly any direction?
