I was in Cabelas a few weeks ago, and in their a discount section there were a lot of those Kelty shades and tents with the price cut real low. I would have taken the plunge, but I didn't need one at the time.

BTW, here's a Kelty for $149 (video): http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/video_popup.jsp?productId=1504980&embedCode=RsaDFiODq-6jp01lMJE_Iz--60exT5ar

We bought the tailveil with a rain fly and used it this past weekend. We have three in our family. Our 12 year old daughter in now over 5 feet tall so I made a galley extension that fits a fold out mattress. The tailveil worked well to provide additional space for our dog and daughter as well as a place to change clothes.

Our hatch is kind of big so the fit was not perfect. The rain fly did not quite extend all the way down the hatch and I had no place to attach the two straps. However, it did fit as if it was made for a teardrop. I bet it would work on a lot of other tears.

Here is our convertible galley bed. We don't cook in our galley much.

After a long weekend I came to the conclusions:

Pros
1. Easy set up
2. Adjustable to teardrop shape
3. Light weight and compact. It is much smaller than a E-Z-Up.
4. Nice area for dog, bug protection, extra sleeping, changing, etc.

Cons
1. Not proven durability in rain or wind. Our first test was in nice weather.
2. Careful installation needed because it could pull down on your hatch causing it to fall. I added a pole to supplement my gas struts for safety.
3. Not sure about cooking with the rain fly.
4. On our trailer the screen material ran over the corners of our hatch. Some kind of reinforcement might be needed to prevent tears.

Hi jabrobbins,

You have a great idea with your "galley bed". If you're interested, maybe
you could do a separate thread on that. It would have more exposure in
its own thread and others who could benefit by 'borrowing' your idea would
be more apt to see it. It certainly merits its own thread.

Cheers,
