A Removable Cabin off the trailer

Hi guys,

I am thinking about making my trailer multi purpose. Has anyone made their build so as they can remove the cabin section and leave the flat bed of the trailer to use for another purpose?

A thought crossed my mind about building the 2 Person Standy so it can be easily removed from the trailer. I plan to remove the cabin then I could use the trailer to move my other project onto the trailer for transporting to the water. Any thoughts or ideas or perhaps you have had experience with what I am proposing. Would love to hear some feedback.

Technically it can be done, my body fits on with 6 large bolts, so can be taken off it needed

It would take 4 people to safely lift off though, so a flat trailer stored on its side would probably be more useful.

Seems like if it can be done with a truck camper it could be done with a small trailer body. But the jacks would look pretty funny on the side.

There are a few threads on this topic. There is one I can't find that was super slick. The builder had a way to attach jacks to the outside that were removable. I tried to do this with my build but once I started adding the electrical system and two drop floor storage areas, the practicality declined. Now I just borrow my friends utility trailer when I need to haul something.

I knew someone must have tried this before.

The more I read through these forums I am finding some fantastic ideas. I have now changed my mind and I am going to build a Widget first up. We love the idea of being able to pretty well stand up in a camper and the Widget just gets me that it has an interior galley. My wife liked that idea better too.

That is really nice with the jacks and all. Besides being very nicely built.
I expect my 4x8 to slide on and off with ease. I already have too many Florida tags, do not need another trailer. Of course I am the guy that suspended my 19' boat from a live oak tree to use that trailer.

My plan is to make a Pico-sized cabin removable from a NT 44x48 trailer. The trailer has other uses - bicycle carrier, rock hauling - and I don't have room to store multiple trailers.

Yes, a very well executed design and implementation.

Yet a complex build, so maybe not practical for most skill levels.

Just saying.

It is a balance between design and build capabilities; storage capacity; and an ability to scrounge and/or build and/or register multiple trailers.

A different choice for each of us.
