Cabin comfort question for small teardrops

Postby tearbert » Sat May 18, 2013 11:14 am

Hello all,

I'm hoping to finish my camper this summer (2013) and have a concern about the cabinets in my cabin. I'm building a 4 1/2 x 8' camper so my cabin is a cozy fit in length. In practical use, what experience can people share about sitting up from a lying down position and coming face to face with your cabinets? Do you ever sit up and smack your face on the cabinets?

In my small cabin, with about 14" deep cabinets, my nose just touches the cabinet face when I sit straight up from a lying position (I haven't build the cabinets yet, it's a mockup right now). Typically I probably won't sit straight up from a sleeping position but rather sit up to my elbows and then scootch my rear backward. That method works fine and natural. However, I have this gnawing concern that I might sit straight up suddenly in the middle of the night and smack my face. Can anyone shed some light on the practicality of this? Do you have an 8' teardrop with close cabinets??

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I have a very small (46" w X 70" long) cabin with storage cabinets that intrude 24" into the cabin. I haven't run into them with my face yet, but hit them with my knees all the time. You can sort of see what I mean here.

I guess I "scootch" up toward the head when I want to sit up, but getting out of the trailer is usually done by just rolling over onto my left side and putting my legs out the (only) door.

I have a 4x8 and my cabinets come probably about.......... 18 inches, I have plenty of room and have never felt at all threatened by them. I do not have front cabinets.

No front cabinets,,,I like to be able to sit up and read,,,,small rear ones for clothes and essentials,,,planned on putting the portable 7 inch dvd player in the middle,,,,but too far away to see,,,,so if the weather is bad,,, I just put it next to the bed and it's like being at the drive in movie....
If you see my harley on a trailer,,,,call the police cause it's being stolen...
