Oops, We Got Stuck!

Postby bdosborn » Sun May 19, 2013 7:39 pm

We bought some property in the mountains in December and this weekend was our first time camping on it. It's been a snowy spring and the ground was a little a softer than we thought it was. I was trying to back the trailer into a spot and the front wheels sunk in to the axle.
Doh!

Luckily our real estate agent happened to drive by and noticed us. He called a guy who pulled us out. That's not how we thought our first camping trip would turn out.

Actually its not a proper stuck.... Hit a soft spot in lower meadow on our property and had Chevy PU with BOTH axles and frame on the ground..... Neighbor with big FWD PU struggled hard to help me get unstuck... Though we were going to call serious wrecker to get Chevrolets current nightmare out of the stuck...

You need to put in a few hard parking places for a few campers.
Then you can hold your own TD gatherings.

You should have called #2 son in Golden. He probably wouldn't have gotten you unstuck but he'd enjoy mucking about in the mud while getting inebriated.

Cheers,

Gus

Sounds like a course in off road un-sticking is in order, that or road building.
Got stuck in Death Vally once had to hike out, managed to catch a ride with a couple of prospectors, who happened to be a couple of geology college professors. Still silver there.

If that had been my jeep I would have been out of there in about 5 minutes. The truck is one fat SOB. 7000# total weight empty with about #5000 of it on the front axle. I decided years ago I just wouldn't get it stuck as opposed to buying the heavy equipment I would need to get it unstuck. I still think I'll just be more careful, I should have known better.

As more weight to front..... Winch.... Or put "receiver" through front bumper and get "plugin" winch mount and winch the way it can work at both ends....

Winch, winch, winch, ...........at least a long chain, rope, and come a long. At least keep one in the truck box.
....and you will never need it , Just remember to take it out and oil it up once every couple of months and thank it for being there. Glad you made it out!!!!

Nice one Bruce!

We were fishing at the Padre Island National seashore. We pulled up right up to the water with no problems. Two of the other guys parked and the guy with the Duramax immediately sunk to the axles, it was like quicksand. The other guy was able to get back in and pull out before sinking. Those Diesels are HEAVY! It took both of the other trucks to pull him out. We figured that the guy I was riding with not only had a lighter truck, he had wider tires that kept him from sinking.

Yeah, I have to admit it could have been a lot worse. The truck came right out when I got the tug from the other truck. The lesson is not to drive out there till June or so I guess. The good news is that it was really cool camping, we found moose tracks in the morning right by the trailer. I can't wait till it greens up and the aspen leaf out:

I guess we'll have to have a gathering or something this summer.
