I looked at doing a 4x8, but ultimately ended up with a 5x8.
It is not much heavier and much larger on the inside for sleeping.
Try laying out a 4' area using cardboard boxes or some sort of hard sides, then lay next to your partner, move around a bit etc. then try a 5' width. you may change your mind 4' is very confining,
From what I have read most everyone that built a 4' wide teardrop, if they had the chance to do it again would go 5' wide.
With my 5' I was able to use an Ikea futon, so I get: sofa, bed, and storage underneath.
