First Try With Our New DO

Well, we are hooked!
After attending the Dam Gathering, we purchased our first Dutch Oven on the way home.
Lodge 12" Regular.
Well tonight we feasted on our first try with our new cookware.
Sandi roasted a 4 lb. Chicken with all the trimmings.
Onions, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, etc.
It came out perfect!
Mouth watering , juicy, chicken with vegetables cooked to perfection.
And ?while Sandi was cooking we remembered our new lid lifter is still in transit, so as the say necessity is the mother of invention. I went out to the shop and welded up a simple lifter while my dinner was cooking.
Had it ready by time Sandi was ready to add the vegetables.
Wish I was better at posting pictures, because I did take some!!
We are confident now and ready to try many new recipes, while camping!

I'm an advocate of an unusual seasoning technique....use beeswax. Seasoning is done the same way, just don't use oil, get a block of 100% beeswax in heat up the DO or skillet and run the block on the item, then season as usual.

With the skillet, it it as slippery as the most expensive Teflon I've ever used. It's truly amazing! I've been using CI for 20 years the old way, but this simple change has made me all but toss every other skillet in our kitchen. My range, smoker, Ned grill are all cast iron, and treated with beeswax....it's a beautiful thing!

Just because you are camping you don't have to dine on hot dogs on a stick. There are hundreds and hundreds of good recipes in 3 or 4 cookbooks on this site alone. They will keep you making creative mouth watering dinners and desserts for years to come.

I cheated on the spring gathering and made a super simple chicken noodle dinner I thought I would share. I boiled some dried egg noodles in salted water with a big blop of butter. When they were ready I drained the noodles then added a large can of chicken noodles for the broth flavoring and then dropped in 2 cans of canned chicken breast. It was almost as good as grandma's and was as simple as boiling water
