Maiden Voyage

Postby djoyner » Mon May 27, 2013 4:08 pm

I finally finished by teardrop that I will tow behind my motorcycle and I took it on it's maiden voyage last weekend. I only took it to a state park about 75 miles away, but it was the first time I've ever towed anything behind a motorcycle.

I found out that campers are some of the friendliest people in the world! I was invited to several campgrounds for dinner and a few more for breakfast the next morning. Also, I found out that a Teardrop is a people magent. I had at least 15 different people come by to inquire about my Tear. They were quite impressed when I told the that I built it myself and that I 'actually sleep in that thing'. I quickly gave props to the two teardrop forums from which I gleaned the knowledge to undertake such a task.

Thanks to everyone here for their information, encouragement and suggestions. Here are a few pics:

DJ,

Looks great.
They do attract people , that has been our experience as well.
Good to hear you had a great first run.
Hope you have many more.

Ah it looks great! I'm going to have to show these pics to a friend of mine who has a motorcycle and was just saying he wished he could spend the night from time to time when he's out and about. He started looking into ultralight tents and sleeping pads but this is way better imho. Do you mind if I ask what the weight is of your tear?

Thank you for the compliments/comments. I plan to do a lot more camping in the upcoming months.

Stacie, I have to have it officialy weighed. Based on the weight of the individual components, I would estimate that it weighs between 300-325 lbs. empty. My goal was to keep the loaded weight under 400 lbs.

DJ,
What a great looking teardrop. Can you tell us more about it...dimensions, what trailer you used, materials.....??
Hoping for some of your build information...
