Possible Bad LED meter?

Postby burlesot » Tue May 28, 2013 11:12 am

Hello.

I'm wondering if it is user error (highly likely) or if my meter does not work properly.

Here is some background info.

The meter was cheap; about $10; from China.

I have a voltmeter that I used to 'test' the battery. The battery has about 11.8 volts according to my voltmeter.

The LED meter only shows .18 volts.

There are three wires coming out of it. Black, white and yellow. I connected the black and white directly to the battery to test it. When I touch the yellow (which I think is the ground) to a ground screw, I get the .18 reading. When the yellow cable is connected to nothing, I get no reading on the meter.

A. Is there another way to test the meter?

B. How do I do A?

C. Where would you recommend buying a small, rectangular LED meter (I already have the hole cut for this 'type' of meter.

Thank you in advance for you help.

Todd-

I think your LED display is dead in the first digit cell and second digit cell where the decimal is displayed is shorted causing that 11.8 volts to be displayed as .18 volts.

Take it back & try again.

Cheers,

What instructions came with the LED meter?

Are there any pins on back? I'm wondering if it has a fixed decimal point.

How many volts is the meter designed to be powered by?

Manufacturer name and part number?
